Excellent pedal, but there are cheaper alternatives around
There's absolutely nothing to complain about with this pedal. It's made by Boss and performs really well, allowing plenty of control over an instrument's tone. If you play around with different tonalities it'll see some use, but there's also a chance to find a perfect tone and then just leave it there in the signal chain. If you like the sound of a "half-cocked wah pedal" you can get it with the GE-7; if you want just clean boost with a little bit more treble for a solo you can do that as well, perhaps pushing an amp into gentle overdrive as you do so. If you feel a bit of prejudice against a pedal that is basically a tone control (as in a hi-fi graphic EQ), try to imagine the possibilities for live playing or simply for capturing a sound that's in your head, or even just wildly experimenting to find ways of turning single-coil pickups into fake humbuckers (soundwise at least) or the other way around. So is it something we all must buy? Well, no. There are other pedals that are equally capable, such as the GE-7 equivalent from Behringer. The GE-7 is built like a tank, the Behringer not so much. If you're not stomping on it dozens of times while playing a set then the Behringer will do the job as well as this will. The Behringer also runs on a proper 9v supply, whereas Boss pedals can operate on 12v. with the voltage taken down to 9v internally. This works okay with a Harley Benton PSU feeding it 9v. The GE-7 also has a built in buffer, as most if not all Boss pedals do. A big deal is made of "true bypass" as though "true" is a virtue. Anybody that knows about cable capacitance and the loss of top end signal will be glad to have a buffer at the start of a signal chain (which is where the GE-7 will typically sit) would be glad to have a Boss buffer provided there "for free". So it's also saving you from buying a separate buffer device for your growing monster FX board! So it won't make any mesmerising sounds that keep you playing, but may just allow you to find that killer tone that does the same.

Boss is often the best
The best 7 band EQ. The Behringer is very nearly as good at a fraction of the price of the Boss if you don't mind a plastic casing but good luck in finding one to buy. The Boss has no faults at all.

Well good news! This is for you
Got an 'average' guitar amp? Not valve? Not enough cash for a £1000+ replacement? Well good news! This is for you! Most makes of guitar amplifiers in the £100-£500 price range always lack middle tonal range, no matter how much you tweet the knobs. This pedal is one of Boss's finest ( Along with the DS1, CS3 et al ) - it's been out for years, and is an unsung hero in my book. You can sculpt the tone completely with this thing and get exactly what your after with a cheap amp. I use it on a Peavey Transtube 212 , ( which at £230 is a great amp by the way ) and it gives me the sound of an amp ££££££ more expensive. This pedal is so good, it "lives" in the back of my guitar amp in the effects loop, and is on, all the time. Absolutely fantastic bit of kit, and if your an experienced guitarist looking at this review, where have you been? Lol Buy it now guys

You don't have to go very far to find a positive review of one of these units, but I'll throw my ten pence in. For those who don't know what these things do, they essentially allow you to sculpt your tone into something. How you go about doing that with these is entirely down to preference - some have it as the first point from the guitar, others prefer it at the end of their effects/distortion chain. Personally I prefer the former. What this has allowed me to do is essentially drag out a significant amount of potential out of the equipment that I currently run, and it's allowed me to improve the sound of all my equipment. Ultimately if you're looking to improve yourself sonically, or you're playing live one of these pedals is an absolute must.

A must have for any Guitarist
This is genuinely a super useful pedal for EVERY guitarist. Why be limited with your amps 3 EQ's of Low Mid and High, when you can have 7 individual bands AS WELL! I have used this GE-7 in my arsenal of pedals on my board for both changing the tone of your guitar and tweaking it to perfection, but also a useful fact about this is you can use it as a BOOST PEDAL! When i use this a boost pedal, i cut some of the lows (because not used much in solo's) and then i will slightly boost a few of the certain highs with then around a 1-2dB boost on the level output. This really gets any solo to cut through the mix and shine right to the back of any audience! With this pedal having some many uses, what can be bad about it? well even the build quality is top notch, being a boss pedal, we all know the sturdy ness these have to offer. So overall this is a brilliant versatile pedal, there is no reason not to buy it right now!

The missing piece...
Ive only had this pedal for a day and can already hear a lot of possibilities for it. It can be used as a simple clean boost but its the tonal shaping it can bring thats most encouraging. Ive always loved the sound of a neck pickup on a les paul (slash, moore, bonamassa) but never managed to get mine to where i wanted it, always sounded muddy. Not any more, this pedal allows me to bring a sweeter sound to the neck pickup without losing its original character. Even just for that, its worth the money.

Otro buen pedal Boss
Muy bien fabricado, como el resto de pedales Boss. Hay quien puede pensar que 7 bandas son insuficientes, pero realmente se puede modificar mucho el tono con este pedal. También puede usarse como booster.
