Please explain maintained and non-maintained. are backup batteries replaceable or not

Non maintained lighting means it's only comes on for emergency lighting, when mains power to it is cut. Mainted means it's on all the time and is thus part of your main lighting, if power goes off will continue to run for about 3hrs I.e. until power runs out. Useful over main exit route after you have set alarm . Not sure if you can replace batteries or not.

Can these be wired with a supply to be non-maintained and a switched supply to maintained so they can be switched on and off, please ?

They can be wired as both maintained and non maintained.

does this have an internal backup battery?

Yes it has a battery when you switch the power off it lights up and runs for 4hrs or so. When it's just on normally charging it has quite a bright led light to show its working. You can also wire it up so its on all the time, if power is cut it then switches over to battery. Have used a couple internally in a village hall and they work perfectly and were the cheapest ones I could find. Hope that helps Ian

Yes you can run them off a ring main, we have one on a switched spur. While it will give you an emergency light if all your power goes out it will not help if it's just your lighting circuit that trips unless you wire it so its on all the time.
