It is perfect to use on silver plate. It is not abrasive, but do use the sponge provided. Rinse in warm soapy water, dry and buff with a soft cloth.

can i use this to polish silver serving trays?

I have never used it to polish a tray I have no doubt it could be used for that purpose but a piece of sponge larger than that which comes with the product would be helpful.
