Bought one of these as have 4k amazon fire stick however all it’s doing is powering wifi and not hard wiring- help anyone?

We had to turn the wifi off on our router, then the firestick recognised the wired ethernet connection. With the left wifi on, it didn't automatically switch to ethernet when we plugged in the adapter. We don't use wifi, so don't know what would happen if we switched the wifi back on . . .
