The retention is great thanks to the big plastic tension spring inside the holster pushing against the flashlight's body. The holster itself is beefy and feels a lot like the plastic baton holsters by ASP or Monadnock. It is clear that the designers have built this holster for duty wear, with years of service in mind. It is not too big either, which is perfect in terms of wear comfort.I had cheaper holsters before (nylon, leather, mirage, etc), but they all ended up breaking at the strap and almost caused the loss of the flashlight on the few occasions. I'd definitely recommend to spend a little more on this rock solid holster to protect your investment.Streamlight did not disappoint, this holster is just as awesome as the flashlight itself. This is the creme de la creme of duty lights and holsters right here, bar none.
