My hair is approx 3 1/2 to 4inches long. Will this wax/gel hold well when trying to sculp? I've tried alot of the VO5 matte products and none hold.

Yes, mine is around the same length and I have no problem at all keeping the fringe swept back (I too had the same problems using the VO5 Matt Clay. To save money (this product isn't the cheapest) I just use less of the product then buy some cheap hairspray, it does the job fine, alternatively you can just use the product but you'll have to use a fair bit more to keep it in place!

Is the glycerin used from animal byproducts?

I used mousse/gel several years ago, it make my hair crunchy, sticky and greasy looking. Does this do the same?

No this stuff is great. Little goes a long way. Use a tiny bit and add more of you need to. Good natural look. No shine no plastic hair. Not as good as the dear barber stuff but bedhead is really good.
