Hi Juice! Great question. The epithet 'banana' is used for this product to describe the shape of the plug pin, designed so that it does not slip out. The assumption that it must also take on other characteristics of the fruit such as taste or colour would be wrong, just as it would be wrong to assume that someone with the name of Knowles knows less than other people. Can anyone confirm the length of the plug? Just the part that goes inside of your equipment... It seems they are usually either 15mm or 20mm?

Below the Black or Red screw on insulated part there is a total of 20 mm gold plated metal protruding. Approx 16mm has the sprung contact material and then there is a further approx. 5 mm of 4.6/4.7 mm dia solid gold flashed up to the black or red sleeve. There is quite a bit of exposed gold when plugged into my 4mm speaker sockets!! but these are well concealed and rigidly hold the plugs apart and the sprung contacts hold the plugs in well.

I have a speaker with a line in port split between left and right channels. do i need to use 2 banana plugs or an rca cable to connect it to a phone?

Not sure, you need one banana plug for each stereo channell ie left and right. Hope this helps.
