Life savier for a toddler I used it with BA (middle seat) And easy jet (window seat but on return, they asked for nobody behind) - I found the usage allowance very inconsistent! Very eaay to fit. Nothing between the legs so depending on size, little one may slide a little. I wish the price was slitghly lower (vs the non CARES one that are identical) but here we are!

Love this
I have used this on 6 flights now, both on Ryanair and KLM. On KLM you need to tell them that you plan to use this in advance and they add it to your booking so make sure you tell them at least a few days before your trip. After using this on a short flight I realised you really need a sticky mat so that the child doesn't slide down, especially on "leather" seats. I bought this for £3: B07JWKPD8J (search the code on amazon) and it worked perfectly and I just washed it after use in the sink with fairy liquid as it got the regular toddler food and drink messes on it during the flight. The harness itself isn't washable but can be wiped down if needed, just read the instructions to avoid damaging it. It has worked perfectly on various planes. It was easiest to sit at the back of the plane so that we didn't need to explain to the person behind us what we were doing, but thankfully we didn't have any issues with other passengers when we did need to set it up and move their tray table etc. It isn't possible/easy for a toddler to sleep with this so I mainly used it for take off and landing and let my child lie down with just the lap belt on when sleeping. Maybe a neck pillow would work but I haven't tried that. It is easy to fit this in your bag and doesn't take up much space at all. Good product, even though it is expensive.

Expensive but good well made simple to use product
Expensive but good well made product kept 2 year old in her seat for take off and landing which is what I was looking for and she was comfortable enough to have a little sleep. Very easy to use, it pushed her down a little in her seat so I can’t inagine using it for long periods of time but happy with it and it suited the purpose well. The airline checked it carefully and didn’t query us using it when I showed them the label so the fact it’s approved is important as they clearly wouldn’t have let us use another option for strapping her in other than the standard seatbelt.

Cares Child Aviation Restraint
Excellent product. A must for all parents travelling with toddlers to five year old. Why do the airlines not rent this product on flights or even have it on the plane for parents to use. A must for child safety. Have now used this on six flights and my granddaughter loves being able to sit by herself. We have used it on British Airways and all the crews had been given briefings on it and were pleased to see it in use. Other airlines such as Easy Jet, Ryan Air, BMI and Monarch need to allow parents to use it as it is so much safer than a lap belt or attacment to an adults seat belt. I have read the review about the need for a leg strap but this is probably a safety issue. The system still holds the child more securely than an adult belt especially during turbulence and in the event of an accident is less likely to cause injury to the child. A rolled blanket under the chids knees or a wateproof backed mat to sit on works great. Having to readjust the seat back retraining strap during flight has never been an issue, is it being put on properly to start with. Adjusting the harness itself on the child before using it on the plane works well

Much better than a lap strap for small children.
Really good for providing a much better and safer restraint for small children on aircraft. It does need some cooperation from the person sat behind to slot the strap under their tray table but we found people were happy to help. My only concern was whether the product was genuine but as far as I can tell it does seem to be.

Traveling parents with a toddler
This has been a lifesaver for us. We’ve flown with our now 2 year old with this for the past 6 months and it’s been amazing. We have bought tickets for him and also have chanced it without a ticket in hopes we might get lucky and get a free seat next to us (happens often). For short or long haul flights it worked perfect. Even in countries like Thailand and China the stewardesses knew this was approved to be used on their flights (United, American Airlines, China Eastern, British Airways, Air Asia, Nok, Southwest Airlines have all been fine with it). This saved us from having to put him on our lap while taking off, landing and during turbulence (if your baby is asleep you know any disturbance is to be avoided). Even if you don’t buy a ticket for you baby it’s good to carry it in case you’re lucky enough to get a free seat next to you (for kids under 2). As for how well it holds your kid in place I’d say it’s a huge upgrade from just the seatbelt across the lap. I also found that my toddler will chill out more with it if he has it on (kinda like a car seat effect). However, they can slip under, but I put a small pillow under his legs to keep him from sliding. All in all I’d 100% recommend it.

SUPERB product - so glad we bought it.
After reading reviews we were in two minds whether or not to bother with this - I'm SO glad we did! It worked exactly as we hoped it would. We have just returned from a visit to UK with our 16-month old son and this worked perfectly for us. J is at the point where he will make short shrift of wriggling right out of my arms if he doesn't want to sit on my lap so we were not looking forward to taking our 'lap child' on an internal flight followed by a transatlantic flight with a long car drive at each end. A few plus points: 1) J was traveling as a lap child so we did not want to haul his car seat with us only on the off chance of him even having a seat - the CARES harness slipped easily into our hand luggage. (As it happened we talked with the check-in attendant and on both journeys managed to get a whole row of 4 seats all to ourselves - for anyone who doesn't already do this, it's ALWAYS worth a lengthy chat about where they're trying to seat you both at check-in, at the gate and even once you're seated if the plane is clearly not full!). 2) The harness fitted easily and securely over the seat as per the instruction. Passengers behind us were not in the least bit bothered about the few seconds it took to slip it over the chair back and under their table. 3) We strapped J into it without him even batting an eye - I think he thought he was just being strapped in like he would be in his car seat and was very content to sit still. 4) It took only a minute or so to make sure the harness was properly adjusted and J seemed very comfy and content in it. On the long flights He happily remained in it all the way through taxiing and takeoff and the first drinks and meal service. However, since each time we had 2 empty seats between myself and my husband when it was 'bed/nap time' we lay J in between us in his long sleep sack (so I could sit on one end of it for extra security!) and with the normal lap belt wrapped around his middle. He was very happy to go back into the harness once he was up again and for the landing and taxiing. 5) J stayed in the harness for the whole of the last flight from Philly to Detroit and was more content than if he was being made to sit on my lap. We did go through some heavy turbulence and I was very glad to have him so securely strapped in. He barely moved. No negatives as such but a few points of caution... 1) Despite the stated height and weight range children are supposed to be at least 2 years old to use this item. Since J is tall and heavy for his age we were happy to use it, and thankfully so were North West and US Airways. 2) Check with your airline to make sure they will allow you to use it, esp. if traveling outside the USA. In our experience with it on this one trip, North West were totally fine with it, US Airways were fine but did remind us he was supposed to be 2 even though they were happy for us to do what we preferred (their alternative is holding your child on the lap with no seat belt at all!), Lufthansa did not allow us to use it during taxiing, takeoff or landing (they insisted I hold him and we use an additional lap strap instead) but were okay with it's use during the flight. 3) Like any car seat or restraint, don't presume your child will be comfy enough to sleep whilst using it... more an issue of sitting upright than the harness itself. That said, if they sleep well enough in a car seat I can't see why they wouldn't with this. 4) Even if properly fitted the large adjusters/buckles on the front vertical straps may be uncomfortable for a child depending on how the harness fits them. I preempted this by taking the cosy covers off our stroller straps (JJ Cole velcro fastening ones) and placing them over the buckles. Jack was fine and may even have been fine without these but I felt it was nicer around his shoulder/neck/chin area to have the extra cushiness. 5) We did have to hitch J up a few times in his seat but this was nothing major and certainly no worse than if he was just using the lap belt. All in all I would highly recommend this product to anyone flying with young children.

Compact, lightweight and no carseat needed!
I honestly didn't even know there was an alternative to bringing a carseat on the airplane until I did the research. This was pretty decent. It was easy to install/remove and adjust. Almost like their carseat buckles. It's small to carry on the airplane and compact, so that's always a bonus for your carry ons. It comes with a carry bag which is handy. The only downside is the limitation of the use. My son is pretty big for a 2 yr old, so he'll eventually grow out of it really quickly for travelling. I'd say if you're travelling a fair amount within their first few years then by all means the price is worth it instead of hauling a carseat around. BUT if you're only using it once then that's a pricey expense.
