Good item.
Worked as expected. Showed that 2 of my 3 battery bank were not up to snuff.

Simple and functional
Lori Chase's review is spot on. It's simple. It works. My Club Car utility cart died. I took a battery to local car parts shop, "bad cell" was the diagnosis. Is it me? Has Covid made me cynical? Or are people truly just dishonest by choice these days - are they taught to lie, cheat, and steal, or what? Wanting confirmation of the pricey diagnosis, I got this tester for 1/6th the price of one battery - I have 6 8v batteries, looking at $1200-$1500 to do it myself, plus a sprained back wrestling the beasts in and out of the cart. Tested battery with reported "dead cell" - 8.3v / 7.1v under load. (Don't hold the load switch too long - first go it started smoking! - a simple resistor to simulate load.) Seems reasonable behavior to me. Same for batteries #2-5, within .1 volt. But battery #6 was 7.1/nothing - a bad cell or two, eh? I give them only 4 stars because I just wish the Chinese manufacturers would not practice the English they've learned in some 6-week intensive when they write manuals. There is nice, comprehensive set of instructions on decal on the back of the tester. (See pic) But if someone could translate the words there into meaningful English for me, I would really, really appreciate it. It's really funny to read. Maybe I should give them an extra star for that. This device is simple and cheaply built, but I expect it to serve me well for a long time, given it's going to mostly gather dust in my garage between power crises. Actually, my electric-start generator battery was behaving "mostly dead" too. So I checked it. Yup. 12v battery registered 10.1/nothing. So a two-fer! I note one reviewer gave them 3 stars and complained that the instructions were not sufficient for him. Well, here's the essence: Clip the black lead to the negative post ("NEG -") of the battery, and the red lead to the positive ("POS +"). The digital display will show the at-rest voltage of the battery. For a 12v battery this should be between 12.0 and 12.5v. There is a toggle switch on the bottom of the tester. It is spring-loaded. Switch it to one side or the other - for less than 5 seconds. While it's on, you will get a "load" voltage for the battery. This should be around 10v for a 12v car battery. Lower values - replace the battery - after checking battery water levels if they're accessible. The instructions, just in case you're interested. Pay particular attention to item "Four, warning." I might note in all seriousness that these instructions were obviously written for a device with an analog meter readout (green-yellow-red zones, pointer, etc). This model is a red digital face, like a 1978 clock radio. The pics on its Amazon page are accurate A, battery testing Test battery capacity status, can effectively judge the battery discharge. Second, the testing scope Battery rated voltage is 6v, 12 v, 24v capacity of 32-500 ampere hour dischargecurrent is 100-120. Three, test methods Clip clip on the storage battery pile, indicator for the anode, can undertake test regardless of is the cathode, press load switch until the pointer is stable and time shall not exceed 5 seconds. Four, warning, It is forbidden to fire don't let fall to the battery of the metal, to prevent to produce an explosion caused by spark. Test the single, the red clip must be sandwiched between the anode and the test stick inserted into the table inside the bottom hole for the single test.

Not for designed for 8V battery
This is designed for 12V batteries. Although the readout displays actual volts, it does not indicate the condition of a battery other than 12V. You will have to figure out your own calculation (voltage drop in time by battery voltage). No instructions included. Handle was bent. Picture shows an 8V golf cart battery with good voltage with a "Bad" designation.

Product box was crushed and frayed
Not sure if it was from shipping or what but it was beat up pretty bad and even had a screw missing when it arrived. I was pleased that it did work like it was suppose to. I took off 2 stars for the box and screw.
