Olivia Saves the Circus (Classic Board Books)

Our 5 and 8 yr old granddaughters loved this book when I read it to them. Olivia has just the right amount of sass!

Not since ELOISE has a little girl barely contained so much personality and style. I first encountered Olivia in an excerpt from one of the many parenting magazines I subscribe to, and my two year-old daughter fell instantly and madly in love (me too) with this imaginative, dramatic, imperious little pig, who jazzes up her boring school uniform with red socks, striped ribbons, and more style than Diana Vreeland. When Olivia is asked to tell her school class about her recent vacation, ("Olivia always blossoms in front of an audience") Olivia regales them with a delightful tall tale of being a circus savior. The story is simple, with enough layers of meaning to amuse adults as it charms children, and the illustrations are hilarious and priceless. OLIVIA SAVES THE CIRCUS is that rare creature in children's books - a story that is fun for kids and parents alike, and one that will stand the test of multiple readings over many years. DON'T MISS IT!

I am here to buy this book and it's predecessor. We picked up Olivia Saves the Circus at the library, and now I have to buy one because we can't renew it anymore! My son is only 16 months old, but he gets very excited when he sees this book come out at bedtime. One night I gathered up a few books to read before bed, and Olivia wasn't in the stack. He looked over the books, then scooted into the living room and returned with Olivia Saves the Circus, asking (in his own way) that it be read. Now he insists that it is part of his bedtime ritual. If I don't have it in the stack of bedtime books, he finds it and brings it along. And when we get to the trampoline part, he always throws up his hands and says, "Wow!" And both his father and I love it, too. The illustrations are wonderful, and the whole character of Olivia - her bold self-confidence, her independent spirit and imagination - is very charming. My favorite part is the end - "Maybe..." I love a pig who's sure of herself...

This is one of three Olivia books that I bought for a friend . She believes in reading to babies before they even understand human language . And she looks forward to reading this book to her daughter when she will understand . The author was a friend of mine in high school .. he was always super talented, plus a good person . I started buying his books for all my friends with tiny children when I learned he had died .

My daughter loves Olivia! Cute story about visiting the circus with toddlers imagination of running the show. The board book is easy for her to turn pages and read herself. I wished more of the Olivia books were available in board books.

Olivia is always entertaining and this was a great buy

Good but not as good as the original. Also hard to read black font on dark background. At least it was a break and a different book.

Love the Olivia series, read these to my daughter years ago, now purchasing as a gift. Olivia illustrates the behavior of a little girl, perfect for sharing and introducing the same model to our own children. The illustrations are entertaining and Olivia's behavior is fun and reminds us all of behind a kid.

Un classique à l’humour fin et décaler. Sur le thème des mensonges. Ma fille adore le lire seule ou accompagnée.

Los libros de Olivia no defraudan. A los niños les encantan, y los mayores, disfrutamos con el fino humor de Olivia, y los estupendos dibujos de Ian Falconer. Lo recomiendo sin dudar. Ahora también está en castellano, pero creo que valen la pena en inglés, y les sirve para practicar.

Perhaps not ideal for a 15 month old, becuase of the charicature-style drawings (difficult for a small baby to recognise shapes, animals etc) BUT really fun ironic adult humour, like a reward for the parent who is reading:)
