It does get hot on top, but it's made from metal so that's to be expected. The toast lifter works so that the toasted item comes out far enough that you can just pick it up (carefully, it's hot!!) rather than unplugging the toaster and using a knife or fork. It comes with a little grooved tray that neatly fits over the two slots so that you can leave it out on your counter and nothing can enter the toaster - so no unexpected toasted bugs, dust or plant life from your wildly flinging cooking. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great toaster *by H***D on July 19, 2024* I had my doubts about this toaster, but it is a really nice toaster.
