My first one was similar, red & white, same style rotating head. It was a little smaller, and was not rechargable, you could only use it with the cord attached, which I did not mind. This model is really similar to my first model, but it’s slightly longer in length and can be used with the cord, or without, once it’s fully charged. That will probably come in handy. I had read other reviews that said this model worked even better than the one I had because it had adjustable speeds and removed even the tiniest bit of hair regrowth. Meaning you do not have to wait until you LOOK like you need to shave before you can epilate your stubble. I was curious to see if that was true, so I used my old Epilady yesterday and sure enough, I could still feel a little stubble afterward. I got my new Epilady gen 2 today and went back over everything again with the new device and it was true! It pulled out even the tiniest little bits of stubble left behind by my 1st gen. device that I had just used the day before. Now I feel completely silky smooth - legs, arms, underarms, you name it, it worked great! And it will stay that way for about a month. No pinching of the skin, either. This is an amazing product and works like it claims. I’m extremely pleased with it and told my sister about it as well. If you are not sure, just take the plunge and go ahead and get it. I've used that one for 25 years and while happy, wanted to know if this removes more thoroughly so I don't need touch-up shaving.** A: I have actually gone back to using my old one (from the 80's) as the newer one doesn't seem to work anywhere near as well. An Epilady rep gave me some tips for use with the new one. Even though I followed instructions and gave it time....still same results. However, if my only choice was the new Epilady vs shaving or something like Nair, I'd choose the Epilady. Hope that helps. **Q: where is epilady made?** A: The back of the unit says "Made in PRC" (People's Republic of China), but the customer service I dealt with is in Houston, and was the best customer service I have ever encountered. Fantastic. **Q: how well does it work with facial hair removal?** A: I have an old Epilady from the 80s and I use it on my facial hair. As I'm older, it helps to stretch the skin very taut. And don't let it grab your lip! **Q: Can you use this on your bikini line?** A: Yes, but with caution, and the hair should be trimmed short (or shave first and catch it w/ Epilady as it's growing back in.) You definitely don't want it grabbing a bunch of hair at once -- it will bog down and get stuck. If you have especially sensitive skin, you may want to use some witch hazel or some product to avoid irritation. (I find when I use it on my face, I have to just be quick about it and I have less irritation. Better to get in and out, go back another day if needed.) Unless you're used to waxing, I think it will be most painful the first time, then subsequently much less so. I think this is partly due to the first time having the maximum hairs per square inch density (then they grow back in at differing rates, so fewer being ripped out at once). And also, though I have no scientific explanation or proof for this, once you've yanked a hair out by the root, it doesn't seem to be anchored in quite as strongly after that, thus is less painful to yank next time. (?)
