While on vacation in Australia, Sabrina Spellman (Melissa Joan Hart in her iconic role as everyone's favorite teenage witch) discovers a mermaid colony in need of her magical protection. But when Sabrina loses her powers, things really get flipped upside down! Honestly, I still do. "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" was the first show I remember sitting down to watch each Friday night. The comedy, the magic, Sabrina herself, and Salem--I was such a fan, I was Sabrina for Halloween, in an officially licensed costume, until the glitter fell off after three years. I even named my black cat Salem! (He's 19 this month!) So, as a huge fan of the series, I waited in anticipation for the original premiere of "Sabrina Down Under" on ABC all those moons ago. Mermaids and magic? Count me in! My Mom recorded it on VHS for me and I watched it all the time--until VHS players became pretty obsolete. I can guarantee I still have my copy, but who has time to pull out the VHS player? I ordered this a few weeks after it appeared on desertcart and it came in perfect, new condition. I was happy to discover that the music, even the songs with actual words, hadn't been changed due to licensing. That was the major issue I've read about the DVD release of the original series, the music being changed. I was pleasantly surprised to find that that hadn't happened here. Is it the best movie out there? No. Is it extremely nostalgic? YES. I remembered everything as I watched and I enjoyed it as much as I did as a kid. The mermaid tails were pretty great for the time, when I only had "Splash" from the 1980s to compare it to. You'll spot the actress who played Valerie, Sabrina's high school buddy from the series, playing a pretty angry mermaid. Sabrina's pal, Gwen, who appeared in the first TV movie, "Sabrina Goes to Rome" returns with just as many problems with getting her magic right. Salem goes along for the ride, as well, but Sabrina's aunts are missing. I did miss their banter, but that was never a deal breaker. It was filmed on location in Australia, so if you're like me, who goes nowhere, haha, it's pretty neat to see some true under the sea reefs. Overall, I recommend for Sabrina, or even mermaid, fans! I love the Sabrina TV movies and even my 9 year old neice got to sit and watch this show with me!

Love Sabrina the Teenage Witch

1990's + Nick Bakay aka Salem + The Great Barrier Reef = FUN
If you love Nick Bakay, aka Salem Sabberhagen The Cat, and the ocean, especially marine biology, you're in for a wholesome 90s tropical treat! He's what made the TV sitcom "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," and TV movies "Sabrina Goes to Rome" and "Sabrina Down Under" great!
