TRENDnet is a contender for home and small office networks. Built to last at lower prices.......
I replaced an old 8 port Gigabit switch that was over 7 years old. This is an updated version that offers a limited lifetime warranty, better quality, and a lower price, ($20). The TEG-S83 offers 16 Gigabit speed at full duplex. No user interface needed, just plug and play. Also, there is no fan, it's heat resistant; so no noise will be coming out of this switch. This replacement will continue to function as a hub for my computer, Cable, and wired internet. It looks great, and is a good value for the money. I do recommend for those on a tight budget.

It has the ports and power in the back. Thank god
Great little switch, fit perfect for our application. I need access so it’s in a cubby on my main desk, but there’s a false back so I can swap cables with little disruption. Take a small power cable that goes to a medium size power brick. Moderately bright lights for status. The best part all the cables are in the back, ports for cables. So many switches now have front power plugs. This makes for a horrible installation imho. Best to keep all your cables on the same side, this also makes sense from a noise isolation stand standpoint. Great switch, easy as it comes to setup and has a great support plan included. They warranty the unit itself for life, you won’t need to use that warranty. These things once they work will work for 10-20 years if left undisturbed. Don’t over think it. Speeds are as advertised. I’d buy another one. Metal case with a small footprint as well.

If you are looking for an 8-port GB switch, this one is a great deal.
There are several pros with this switch, and no cons that I can identify. It's small, but sturdy and metal, not plastic. The performance is there, as several speed tests show it's delivering to spec. The reason I chose this one over others is because it has LEDs on the front side facing me, and all the ports and power jack on the back side facing the wall. This used to be the "norm" but for some reason, companies are moving away from this logical design (I'll presume it's a cost factor). The 5-port switch it replaced, a D-Link model, worked fine, but has the power jack on the side of the plastic box, so it kept moving around on the shelf, and the LEDs were on top, so I had to get close to see activity. Anyway, to get two of these for $50 was such a great deal I felt I should leave a review and tell others interested in purchasing this model, there's no need to hesitate.

Capable 8 port switch
It is a functioning 8 port unmanaged gigabit switch. Why pay more if it is everything you need in a compact form.

Very Happy!
I bought 3 of these for my Network. The quality is quite good and, they are fan-less. They are speedy and since replacing my Other Well Known Brand Name 1 Gigabit 8 Port & 5 Port switches... The Speed/ Performance is up! What I like best is that these TRENDnet's are following the OLD School approach, where the LED Lights are on the Front of the Unit and the Ethernet Connecters are inserted at the back. So they are perfect for a Small Office/ Home Office Network. Where they sit on your desk and you aren't looking a black box with No indicators at all! The competition did this to save a buck. But their New editions doesn't fit or work the way I want it too. These TRENDnets are great!

The ports and power input are on the same side +++++
The headline really says it all for me. These days, unmanaged switches are pretty much all the same. There's very little to differentiate them from one another other than price, and how the ports are configured. I get why the power is often on the back and the ethernet ports are on the front. It makes sense if you need to connect and disconnect devices often or have another reason to need easy access to the Ethernet ports. My use case, however, is that I want to be able to monitor the connections, but I want all of the cabling in the back where I can hide them. This switch meets that need, and it's pretty inexpensive. I plugged it in, plugged in my network cables, and everything works great.
