And the story gets better and better!!!

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2015*

I'm astounded - ONCE AGAIN - by Shannon Mayer's ability to write such lovable, knowable, relatable, broken characters. Both heroes - or heroines, as the case may be - and villains! There are at least five of each - some of which happen to be both! Before going any further, if you haven't read Books 1-3, stop reading this, already, and go one-click those bad boys, cuz I may or may not mention something that has happened in them, and I don't want to spoil anything for you. So, for the sake of this review, if you read from here on, SPOILER ALERT!! *BUT ONLY FOR BOOKS 1-3!* I will refrain from spoiling this amazing gem of a book! Next on the list - I would recommend this book to a mature audience - definitely nobody under the age of 16-ish. That may make me sound incredibly "prudish", but as a mom, it is my opinion that it is not meant for the younger crowd. There are thousands of paranormal/supernatural romantic fiction to satisfy a younger crowd. (Try Ella James' Stained Series.) There are deep issues in this book - in this series - and while there isn't as much violence in this book as in the previous three, there is quite a bit of loss and grief that our favorite Tracker, Rylee, must endure. A theme for this book - which could actually be a really LONG "Rylee Adamson Novel, Book 3" - could be how Rylee deals with the losses in the previous three books; there is plenty of it, none of which she has had time to process. OH! And there are a few new characters - and new sides to our secondary characters - that are SO interesting - giving us plenty more to look forward to in Book 5! As always, Shannon Mayer writes Rylee's cynical humor and wit as flawlessly sharp as ever! And there are so many twists and turns (both figuratively AND literally) towards the end of the book, that, even if they were SOMEWHAT foreshadowed, were still fun to read all the way through! The battle lines are drawn! Pick your side...TLDR:Recommended for a mature audience - 16ish & up - as there are adult themes, language, violence, and situations.Fluid continuation from Book 3 to Book 4 - and many loose ends are nicely tied up for the time being.Shannon Mayer is becoming one of my favorites - like, nearing the top FIVE! (Ms. Mayer, that is hard to do with me. I so enjoy your books!)

One of the best of the series so far for me.

*by J***T on Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2017*

This book added some interesting new characters, and several others changed and progressed. I was involved enough in this one that I didn't want to put it down at all until it was finished. Of course, it isn't really finished, but at least this one had a sort of happy semi-ending.Oh, it wasn't perfect; the characters still use really nasty language, and it had the usual proofreading and editing errors that plague this series. But this one didn't kill anyone important off, and there was a return of some romance for Riley. For me, it's a fast moving and intriguing series so far. Even if the individual books aren't long enough (in my opinion), and even with Prophecies entering into the plot (I really hate Prophecy as a plot component). I'm on to the next one....

    Exciting and emotional

Rylee and friends are still in England, needing to accomplish 3 things; 1) get the promised training from Jack as he is dying and it’s believed they are the only two Trackers left, 2) find her lover, Liam O’Shea, who was turned into a werewolf and is currently lost to his wolf and killing every witch he can find for what was done to him, and 3) find her sister who was kidnapped ten years ago who Rylee can now feel is alive and not too far away. But Rylee can’t be in multiple places at once, and has to make choices a number of times on where she’s going to put her focus and the decisions she has to make are really difficult; as are some of the outcomes. Expect some surprises.Trackers, witches, vampires, Shaman, harpies, werewolves and other shifters, Guardians, dragons, gargoyles, Druids, ogres, necromancers, demons, I’m not sure we’ve been introduced yet to everything in Mayer’s world.Have some tissues ready when reading this book; you’re going to need them since the author does a really good job of pulling the reader into Rylee’s head and we’re in for an emotional ride with both heartbreak and joy. Thankfully the story is peppered with bits of humor. What I really enjoy the most about this series are the characters and the pack/family Rylee has created, as well as her philosophy when it comes to helping others; which is so laughingly at odds with her runaway mouth when she’s scared or cornered and doesn’t want to show it. And she picks up allies in unusual ways. The back story is now starting to have more importance as we’re exposed to a larger picture. There’s no way to read this as a standalone and get the full effect and enjoyment from this book that you would get from reading from the beginning.
