While it does work the blade is really flimsy and bends under stress and then the paper tears. I was able to make it work perfectly by adding a 38 inch long piece of heavy aluminum angle on top of the blade for reinforcement, cuts perfectly every time now. This might not be an issue for light weight papers. Your results will vary... ### ⭐ Difficult to tear *by E***. on August 25, 2019* I am not one to write reviews but I bought this cutter about a year ago and what a mistake! Although the unit is sturdy, the biggest complaint I have is that every time I tear the paper, the roll comes unthreaded from the tooth bar. (Everyone in my family that uses this cutter has had the same experience). There’s about a small gap in which to thread the paper through. No tension to hold the paper roll in place and unless I hold the paper, it will roll back a bit when I tear and become unthreaded. On the bottom is a smooth flat bar and the top is the tearing jaw bar. Threading it is a big pain and time consuming-sometimes I would have to fold the paper just to get a smooth enough edge to get it through. Every day, I rip about 10 sheets. I finally got so fed up with it that I bought another spring tension unit-wall mounted and wow, what a difference. The new unit also tears much quieter as well.Too bad I spent some much money on this. Not to mention the daily aggravation. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not as shown, but still works fine. *by D***. on August 31, 2017* Flimsier than expected, but does the job. I wanted it wall-mounted but that can't be done directly. I bought a four-foot shelf and strong supports, and screwed the base done to that; this works fine. The cutter isn't sharp at all and tears heavy red rosin paper pretty roughly--but nobody gets cut on it, either. I had to bend the arms inward to work with the bar--which is just a piece of conduit. The pictures on the instruction sheet show holes in the bar, and pins to trap the bar in place in the arms, but there's no sign of anything like that.
