## Description

A New York Times Bestseller! In Finding Jesus in the Old Testament , David Limbaugh unlocks the mysteries of the Old Testament and reveals hints of Jesus Christ's arrival through all thirty-nine Old Testament books. The key to the secrets of the Old Testament, Limbaugh argues, is the crucial New Testament encounter between the risen Jesus and two travelers on the road to Emmaus. With that key, and with Limbaugh as a deft guide, readers of Finding Jesus in the Old Testament will come to a startling new understanding of the Old Testament as a clear and powerful heralding of Jesus Christ's arrival. Limbaugh takes readers on a revealing journey from Genesis through Malachi, demonstrating that a consistent message courses through every one of the Old Testament's thirty-nine books: the power, wonder, and everlasting love of Jesus Christ. Previously titled The Emmaus Code

Review: Hope and Joy! - This book is a few years old now but still a gem! I used it to help write the following devotional. We can enter 2020 with hope and joy! Christmas 2019 is now over. I hope it was a very special time for you with wreaths and carols, bells and lights, fun and fellowship with family and friends. Likely it was a time of giving and receiving gifts. Most importantly, it was a time to reflect back on the birth of Jesus — our greatest gift! I also hope that we all had time to think deeply about the significance of Jesus’ birth and how it was such a glorious event among those in the progressive history of our salvation. As we know, when God created the world and time and man, He knew that man would sin. He knew the consequences. He knew this would cause a separation between man and Himself. But He was not caught off guard. He already had a solution. And He reveals that solution in the Bible. The scriptures spend little time on events between the creation and the fall (of man) but spends much time on events thereafter. Why is this? It is because the Bible’s emphasis is on salvation history. Our salvation! The sixty-six books of the Bible can be summed up in one name: Jesus Christ. The Name above all names! He is the solution to the problem caused by Adam’s sin. The Bible reveals our savior Jesus to us progressively from beginning to end. In fact every book of the Bible points to Jesus. (David Limbaugh’s Book The Emmaus Code does a magnificent job of illuminating this fact). Think of a dimmer switch on a ceiling light. As the dial is turned, the light gets brighter and brighter. Dim shadows of the truth become clearer and clearer. Jesus is revealed to us in many ways throughout the Old Testament and beyond, from God’s many covenants with man (from the Edenic to the Davidic to the New), to the 100+ fulfilled messianic prophecies such as Jesus being born of a virgin, being born in Bethlehem, being a descendant of David, and many, many more. Another moving example of the progressive revelation of Jesus as Savior that threads its way through the Bible is the Doctrine of the Lamb. This doctrine is explained in The Emmaus Code where the author credits theologian J. Sidlow Baxter with the following fascinating gem lifted from scripture (notice the progression via the all-cap words): Genesis shows the NECESSITY of the Lamb. Cain’s “fruit of the ground” offering did not suffice; Abel’s “firstborn of his flock” offering did. Later in Genesis Abraham (as it turned out) didn’t need to provide an offering to God; God did! It was God’s PROVISION of it in the thicket that provided the offering for Abraham to give back to God. In Exodus the Bible stresses the necessity (at the Passover) of the SLAYING of the lamb whose blood would provide the only means of protection from God’s judgement. Leviticus tells us the importance of the CHARACTER of the lamb noting that it must be “without blemish.” In Isaiah 53 we learn that the Lamb God provides is a PERSON. Crossing into the New Testament we learn from John the Baptist that Jesus is THAT person! “... Behold! The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). In The Book of Acts, Philip, after being instructed by an Angel of the Lord, explains to an Ethiopian eunuch that Jesus the Lamb is the promised CHIRST. In 1 Peter we reach a pivotal point in God‘s revelation of salvation history. Peter summarizes what you have just read above about the Lamb, and then brings us to the next revelation: the RESURRECTION of the slain Lamb and the HOPE that accompanies it. For God “... raised him from the dead and glorified him ... so your faith and hope are in God.” (1 Peter 1:21) Then in Revelation 5 we see the ENTHRONEMENT of the Lamb. The Lamb now sits on the throne of heaven! And lastly in Revelation it shows Jesus Christ’s everlasting KINGSHIP! Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords and worthy of all praise and glory and honor forever! And because of Him, we can be worthy also. All those who declare with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead, will be saved ... and will spend eternity with Him. What grace! What joy! What a gift! So as we move past another wonderful Christmas season and head into a new year, let us all cherish the greatest gift of all, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Let us remember always that when the angels sang with joy over the newborn Jesus, they knew the significance of this moment in salvation history. And we know the end of the story. Praise His Name forever!
Review: Excellent examination of Christ's presence in the Old Testament - David Limbaugh's book on how Christ is ever-present in the Old Testament greatly informed my understanding of Christianity. He does an excellent job of explaining how the Old Testament is intricately linked to the New Testament. As you read through the pages of this book, you'll find that Mr. Limbaugh's in-depth descriptions on finding Jesus in the Old Testament and his numerous citations reveal how important an understanding of the Old Testament is to grasping the whole Bible. There is a lot to unpack in this book, but David Limbaugh does a fine job of examining a lot of fine details in the Scriptures without getting too absorbed in minutiae that are beyond the scope of the book. As a lawyer, I appreciated how Mr. Limbaugh (an attorney) carefully assembled evidence from multiple sources, weighed competing viewpoints, drew comparisons, and presented well-developed arguments about particular topics. Finally, I would say that, as a Christian, the book encouraged me to more diligently examine the Bible so as to be more knowledgeable and confident in my faith.
