They seem to have the best quality control. I’ve never received a defective DR string, and I never had one break, that I can remember. They are consistently good. I like the sound and feel of these pure nickel wound strings. The playability and tuning retention is excellent. They are a good value for the money.These DR strings came paired, wound with unwound, in three envelopes. They are labeled “Corrosion Proof Envelope.” The strings are fresh and shiny. No rust or corrosion. They look and feel perfect. I recently received a set of strings from another brand and had to send them back. The first wound string I took out was defective with a bulge about 4 inches up from the barrel. :(I’ve been using DR phosphor bronze strings on my acoustic guitars for many years. I like the sound, feel, and durability of those strings. I more recently put DR Pure Nickel Wound strings (11-50) on my Telecaster and fell in love with them. So much that I bought this Pure Nickel Wound 10-46 set and put them on my Strat. They replaced a 9-42 set of Cobalt strings that were prematurely wearing down my fingers and the silver/nickel frets on the Strat.These Pure Nickel Wound strings (4-6) don’t sound as bright as the Cobalt strings but I like the more mellow vintage sound and the smoother feels of the softer nickel winds. I don’t hear or feel any difference in the treble (1-3) strings. Those are almost exclusively tin (occasionally zinc) coated high-carbon steel wire, no matter who makes them. String preference is a very subjective thing so all I can say is I like the quality, playability, clarity, and overall tone of these DR Pure Nickel’s. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid Strings *by on Reviewed in the United States August 15, 2026* I used to use Markley Blue Steel's. Those have ceased manufacture. So, I had to come up with a string that satisfied me. I went through several brands and various iterations. These are what I settled on. They produce a good tone, feel good to the fingers, last a reasonable amount of time; and, most importantly; they stay in tune. The price is usually middle of the road. Everyone has a set and brand that they turn to. I use these on a Fender Stratocaster. These are what I will play on that particular guitar; going forward. Each guitar is different and you have to find what works for that instrument. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome strings for the price *by on Reviewed in the United States September 7, 2020* I love DR strings. I think they’re way underrated. They’re made in America, last forever, have a very short settle in time, they’re very affordable, and have great tone. The round core wrapped in PURE nickel, not nickel plated, really makes all the difference in these strings. The result is a very warm, full, vintage sound. And the nickel is easier on the frets too. I tend to have a heavier hand while playing so it’s nice to know these won’t chew up my frets. I have Pure Blues strung on all my electrics in different gauges and they all sound phenomenal played clean or dirty. I have 9-42s on my strats and just recently put a set of 10-46 on my Jazzmaster and it totally transformed the tone. The bridge position isn’t harsh and biting anymore. It really mellowed it out. I have a set of 9-46 ready to go on my Tele to give me a little bit more low end while retaining that classic twangy tele top end. So you see, they make these strings in many different gauges to accommodate different needs for different guitars. I don’t see any reason to ever switch to another brand.
