Review: You need this saw! - So where to begin? I was considering buying a nearly $400 Husqvarna gas chainsaw. I’ve taken down 75 trees in my yard of varying thickness with a friends 16” and 20” saws. So about after 50, I decided to buy this little guy for the remainder, with intent of using it for cutting limbs and branches. Cue my friend getting forced to work overtime like crazy. So I started to experiment with this saw to cut down the remaining trees. Now I still had some thicker ones that would definitely test this saw, being it’s only 12”. But wow. Super impressed. The saw had plenty of power to slice through not only the branches, but I literally sawed about 15-20 trees down with this and fully cut them up. Oak, Maple, Pine, Sassafras. No problems. Had to change the chain once during this due to dulling but it was a lot of cutting. All I have to saw is wow is this convenient! First it’s light. Very easy maneuvering and one hand cutting is super easy when necessary. Powerful enough to cut through trees bigger than 12”. Though a bigger saw would be easier, duh. But it’s nice to know it’s capable. Most importantly, the battery life. I haven’t been more impressed with a battery powered anything in my life. These batteries power this saw for a long time and I’ve only needed to change the battery once during the day while cutting up multiple trees. It’s a small saw but you could use this all day without too much exertion. Quiet and perfect for thinner trees and branches but won’t disappoint you if you need to cut thicker trees. It does use some oil so make sure you have some. Amazing tool. Would give it 10 stars if I could. I ended up buying the Dewalt 20v weed trimmer, pole saw, and hedge trimmer as well. Very impressed with the battery life and quality.
Review: An excellent little saw - I own a Stihl 036 as my big felling and bucking saw, and it's what I will still use for trees and logs larger than 10" diameter. However, I've always liked to keep a second, smaller chain saw around for limbing, bucking small logs, and the lighter weight. Over the years, I owned top-handle (i.e.- pruning/arborist) models from Stihl (their 019) and Efco. While this saw is not technically a top handle, it has the balance and light weight to be used for amateur arborist purposes, while also being useful for making cuts on the ground (note, however, that this saw does not have a lanyard loop like any professional, top-handle arborist saw would). I paid cash/regular desertcart price for my saw, and am not being compensated for this review in any way. So far, I've used the saw for about six hours, and am still on the original chain without sharpening. The chain seems to be holding an edge nicely still (spitting chips, not sawdust), after cutting several large (4"-8") hickory and maple limbs, and limbing and bucking two ~10" diameter maple trees. I used 5.0 Amp hour batteries, and needed to switch them out every 45 minutes or so of hard cutting. I'm not sure how people are getting a full day's work out of even the larger Flexvolt batteries, but since I own a bunch of 4.0 and 5.0 amp hour guys, I just pull them when they get weak and drop them into my chargers. The draw of this 20 Volt saw seems similar to the 20 Volt leaf blower, which I also own. To keep either of these yard tools running hard over a full day, I'd recommend having at least five 5.0 amp hour batteries and four DCB-115 chargers plugged-in. Regarding the leaking of oil in storage complaints that other reviewers have made, this saw will hold its oil well if stored with the flat side of the bar horizontally (i.e.- flat on the ground), with the saw's "DeWalt" logo facing upward. In a "normal" chain saw position (i.e. teeth of bar toward sky & ground, "DeWalt" logo facing sideways), the saw will leak oil, but it's a minor behavior change to solve this. When cutting, the saw does fling oil like a Sheik on the verge of bankruptcy, but bar oil is pretty cheap. Not a big problem, and lubrication is nice... The oil cap was stuck when I received the saw, but careful loosening using pliers freed it, and then a light coat of bar oil along the seal solved the trouble. I can now loosen and tighten it by hand just fine. DeWalt should lubricate the seal with a bit of silicone or oil, but with all the reviews mentioning the problem, hopefully buyers can figure it out... The thin-kerf chain can get bound-up if you push the saw too hard. I had to learn to use a lighter touch to avoid the trouble. The thin bar can flex more than I am used to as well, but again, just adjust your force accordingly. I am still using the original bar, and my saw says right on its body that a 12" bar is the maximum size. Since my Stihl has a 20" bar, I am fine with 12" as the size for this DeWalt. I did allow the chain to get too loose once as I was cutting, and it did jump off, but getting it back on is easy and requires no tools (hint: position the saw upside-down, resting on its handle and brake as you do so). The chain brake works excellently, and this saw feels as safe as such a tool can be. Keep your awareness up, though: quiet is not the same as harmless! I wear kevlar chaps, gloves, and a helmet with face shield and hearing protection when using this saw. But that quiet operation is incredible. With my Stihl 036, my wife and kid can't stand the noise anywhere, even in the house with the windows shut. With this battery powered DeWalt, they can be playing 25 feet away (when I am bucking or limbing, not felling!) This does not feel like a truly heavy duty saw, but as a brush/limbing/lightweight/2nd saw, I love it so far. It's incredible to finish a small cutting job and not reek of 2-stroke fuel. It's great to work quietly so that family and neighbors are not disturbed. With only a few hours' use, I can't yet comment on long-term durability, but it seems like it will last. Will edit if anything changes.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect for anyone... including newbies
*by R***A on October 27, 2020*

This chainsaw is awesome. Im a woman of 5'4... right about national average. I am not an expert when it comes to power tools and I in no way have a green thumb. I do however have a TON of brush to clear... and my clippers just won't cut it. I ordered this 2 years ago. TWO YEARS AGO. And it still works perfectly for our needs. And honestly, we've asked a lot of this chainsaw. I've cut branches with an 8-inch diameter. We literally measured it because we were so impressed. So let's get to specifics.. when it first arrived (again, 2 years ago) I didn't realize I needed anything for it. All you need is some chainsaw oil to keep it running smoothly. This tool is small and light enough for me to feel comfortable using on a ladder (.... and btw I feel like a total badass when I'm up there using it LoL). It only weighs a few pounds though. I'd say like 5 or 6 lbs give or take. And its really easy to move around. It doesn't have what I'd call a "clunk-factor". So if I'm on a ladder trying to cut branchesni can move it around and through branches with minimal effort. And I cant say enough, how much this thing can cut through. We use it mostly on the spring, but this passed Christmas we got our tree home and realized it was a little too high. So we whipped this out and 5 minutes later our tree was perfect. Comparatively, the price is good: Similar items are similarly priced. I went with this one though because of the name. Dewalt is a highly trusted brand. And it gets a full charge in 1 or 2 hours. Also should note.. its simple to understand the mechanics of it. If you take the casing off, you can easily take the chain and bar out to clean and maintain. So I give it 2 big thumbs up! I highly recommend.
