GOLDEN Artist Colors Crackle Paste, 8 fl. oz. Jar

I used this to recreate the cracked gilding on an early 18th C. tabernacle frame. The results were amazing and matched the original look. The instructions are very helpful and after testing different thicknesses of the medium I found the precise effect I needed. I was able to oil gild the material after an application of toned gouache followed by the size.

This product is so much fun. I love it. I find it inspires me too, in a very childlike art project kinda way. I've used it on paper, plastic and wood all with great results and no delamination. I was very happy to learn it is archival too. This will be in my art supply cabinet for life. Of note: texture is similar to marshmallow paste. I was not expecting it to be so fluffy. It's fine, I just thought I would mention it in case you think it's going to be more like a gel medium

I am not an artist that draws or paints; therefore making this hard to rate as I was using it for jewelry. It does mention it works well on all kinds of surfaces; however my work surface is about an inch - mostly or less, for some sort of texture or color. This would have worked better on a larger space other than what I was using it for which is why I gave it a rating of 4. So this review is for those who do the same thing as I do; couldn't really see the crackle in a small space, but it was worth the shot anyways. I already know that this product gets high reviews for other kinds of projects, which is why I wanted to try it; just didn't work for my jewelry.

This paste works! Ive used this paste multiple times to create a cracked affect on ice. Very realistic. I recently painted a series of works using the paste to create some great stone affects. Sanding lightly also gives a wonderful soft look too. This is a fantastic tool for every artist. Highly recommend.

Very easy to work with, glides onto my surface like melted butter. Super light weight. I'm really going to enjoy working with this stuff! In my photo I've just started work on some tags so they aren't finished, it's just the crackle paste on them.

I'm not sure if perhaps the product was old or just a bad batch, I bought this brand at the suggestion of an artist I follow. I used a few different surfaces, tried different application techniques, different thicknesses, and tricks I found online, none of them ended up giving the crackle effect I needed. A few of the pieces had barely visible hairline cracks. I've seen tons of stuff from this brand come out amazing so I'm not sure why the container I bought didn't work properly.

I love this stuff! It is finicky about surface preparation. The best results are when this paste is applied over a matte medium such as gesso or acrylic matte paint. It doesn't show the color underneath so if that's the type of crackle glaze you're looking for, this is not the product you want. I painted the dried crackle paste with glazes where the thin glaze fills the cracks and it is absolutely gorgeous. Plus, it adds a lot of attractive texture to your composition and the results are stunning. If the paste is applied thickly (1/2 to 3/4 inches) it won't start cracking until the next day and doesn't finish cracking until 3 to 4 days. But when the paste is applied less than 1/4 inch it will start cracking in a couple of hours. Still, it requires a few days for curing. Waiting on the drying time is a pain in the butt...it's worth it, I promise!!

Utilisé sur des toiles de petits formats. Les craquelures sont nettes et correspondent bien à ce que je recherchais.

Pricey but worked really well. Was stressful to paint over it, but nothing broke off. Will also spray varnish over it.
