I bought this book because I'm exploring some different ideas on how to do things - traditional archery seems to have more than a few different ideas (and arguments) on how to do things.If I were a beginner this book would have given me enough information to help decide which direction I'd want to go in selecting and setting up my gear. What I really-really like, that some people dislike, is that Fadala doesn't offer us any "this is the only true and right way to ...." - he offers us several examples of the different options, some reasons he likes or dislikes some of them, sometimes a little history on how we got to that option - then he leaves it to you to try it and decide for yourself. Where there is science to back up a choice (ie: right helical or left helical feather flight) - he shares. Then he advises "do what works for you" -- best archery advice around.Being that our sport can't seem to agree on what, exactly, "traditional archery" is and that we argue about minor points all of the time; I appreciate that Falada didn't take a hardline approach that there's only one true and correct path.If you're the type who would rather read "step 1 - always do this. step 2 - then do that. ..." then this might not be the right read for you. If you're looking for some different ideas to explore and try out - this is interesting.What I wish there was some more on though is aiming techniques - it's heavy on "point and shoot" instinctive shooting. I sat down and read it straight through though - in a single sitting. It's not a bad read. Of course, nothing will help your shooting as much as some time with bow in hand and arrows flying. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A great general overview of the topic *by C***. on November 19, 2012* Fadala has written a very nice introductory book here that touches on just about every topic in traditional archery. A great book to read if you are picking up a fiberglass recurve for the first time. However, If you are looking to make your own archery tackle look more to the Boyer's Bibles series. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Needed reference book for grandkids. *by Y***L on September 13, 2012* I was looking for a book to help me teach my 16 grand kids instinctive shooting target archery. This book is very geared to hunters and experienced ones at that. Very interesting beginning chapters on the very old and recent history of traditional archery by early man and native Americans. Great glossary. No URLs or vendor data as I wanted to get connected to local vendors and ranges.I ended up buying a family set from LL Bean for $130.00 which was advertised on Amazon. Very happy with it. It is a complete set including a 30# pull re-curve, which is perfect for me. Kids use 15# compound I found at local sports store for $50. Frankly a piece of junk plastic but works for the kids.A better book for my purposes from Amazon is "Beginner's Guide to Traditional Archery" by Brian J. Sorrells.Sorrell's book has Appendix A Traditional Archery Suppliers, Appendix B Custom Bowmakers and Appendix C Resources with Books and Mags, Videos, including URLs and addresses and phone #s. that I use to continue my learning and to develop my teaching effectiveness.
