Review: Great combo with the 18-140mm lens! - Very nice upgrade from my old Nikon Coolpix A900. High quality photos once you learn how to use manual mode. I like being able to control light with the shutter peed/F-stop. I have not used to flash yet because I use manual mode. Great combo with the lens (18-140mm). I have since bought a 70-300mm Nikor lens. It may be out-dated but, I LOVE ths camera. BIG upgrade for me. Nikon quality!
Review: Excellent camera! - This camera, although it would be considered “dated” by younger generations of photographers, is still very much a powerhouse and a must have for anyone wanting to take photos in a variety of situations! This is a step up from the previous DSLR I owned so there is a small learning curve for me as far as the features. I also consider it a step up from the z50 mirrorless I own. While mirrorless is lighter weight, there are situations where it just isn’t capable of doing what I need. The real test for this D7500 will be marching season during halftime shows, but as of so far, I’m impressed! The 18-140 lens is truly an excellent lens! It is able to zoom in and out as I need in all situations I’ve used it so far. Very fast auto focus and I love that I can easily switch to manual on the lens itself without fiddling with settings on the camera. This significantly lowers the risk of me missing a photo opportunity because I’m looking for a setting in the camera menu. Sturdy body. This does add weight to the camera but honestly I feel like that isn’t a bad thing. I started my photography journey with an SLR with no auto focus and black & white film in HS. I learned to develop the film and photos myself. The features and options on this camera are truly amazing and I still have a lot to learn about it, but so far I’m impressed! I’ve always been a Nikon girl and they continue to provide excellent photography cameras and lenses! *photo taken at my local Memorial Day ceremony. This pup was super fast and I took several photos in quick succession to get the one shown on the review here. The D7500 didn’t hesitate, focused quickly and I was able to take this picture. The owners were thrilled when I posted it on the local page as they had yet to get a good pic of their new pup :)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: "record rich and detailed 4k ultra hd or full hd videos up to 29 minutes 59 seconds" my d7500 cuts 4k videos into ~5 min long clips. yours too? why?**
A: Nikon's manual is vague with that "up to" statement. I believe the limit is due to the FAT32 filesystem - the standard filesystem for SDHC cards 32G and smaller - having a max file size of 4GB, so numerous files are required. Check the card - if that 5 minute clip is about 4GB in size, there's your answer. 64GB and larger SDXC cards use exFAT filesystem, which doesn't have that 4GB/file limit.

**Q: Please tell me feedback on touch autofocus of D7500**
A: Will the D7500 work with my older lens. Currently using D90?

**Q: I'm mostly into scenery/nature/landscape/astro photography. What would be the main advantages of upgrading from a D3300 to this model?**
A: I bought this body largely for its awesome ISO specs, and was quite impressed... until I wasn't. I was on my first big trip in the field (Canadian Rockies on a super clear moonless night) and continuously got frames with a red band on the right edge of the frame (short edge). I experimented again when home in a completely dark room, eye-cap on, etc, etc.. to get exactly the same issue. I went to my local camera shop, and they were able to easily recreate the problem with their own D7500. Nikon support has not had any solution in the last 3 months. If you are looking for high ISO and astro photography, I would stay away from this camera.

**Q: I have watched videos of what seems a lot of video focus issues. In actual use, have you found this to be true, if so, any work arounds/Nikon fixes?**
A: I produce many videos in auto focus and I didn't find it to be an issue. I followed a bee hoovering harvested grapes on one video, and the bee was tracked very nicely. You can also switch to manual focus in some cases. Also, I don't just shoot a clip. I shoot several clips and I shoot them a bit longer. If something jumps out of focus, I just remove that part of the clip in post processing. In general, though, I don't have to do this. The lack of focus in video is exaggerated by the internet. However, I got inspired by some videos by people who shot the D7500 entirely in autofocus and were successful. You have to know what you are doing too.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great combo with the 18-140mm lens!

Very nice upgrade from my old Nikon Coolpix A900.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great camera even though model is 8 years old
*by R***T on July 30, 2025*

The D7500 came out in 2017, is one of Nikons higher quality models from that time. Does not have latest tech compared to latest cameras or even phones. But for my needs, its almost perfect. Excellent viewfinder, awesome battery life (typical of dslr's, and one of the advantages over mirrorless cameras). So easy to get a great image. Fast accurate auto-focus. I prefer Program mode, but when in Auto mode, you can still get amazing, dependably sharp lower noise photos. The lens (18-140mm) it comes with is awesome, great image quality at all focal lengths. I bought an older model, because it was new (hard to find this model new anymore), on deep discount (at least compared to price when released in 2017), and was the higher quality model I was looking for. Lens and camera body are weather resistant. Great movie quality, too. I almost always use 4k, I'm ok with 30 fps., (though many newer models have 4K 60fps) movie image quality is clear, sharp, pleasing. It is certainly larger than a compact camera, but I can't afford one of the better compact models out now, and even many full frame cameras are now smaller than the D7500. What with Tariffs and general inflation, good cameras are VERY expensive now. I must admit I am partial to Nikon, and I wanted a camera with a decent range telephoto lens. This camera tiks all the boxes important to me, I extremely happy with it. The lens is fairly compact for an 18-140mm configuration, is just an outstanding lens.
