Breakaway: Beyond the Goal

I cannot say enough about how impressive Alex Morgan is. Her mind-boggling athletic talent, character, intellect, compassion, wisdom, resiliency, perseverance, and unheard of achievement in her sport are absolutely remarkable. Then, when you add this natural dynamic charisma she possesses, which attracts people globally to her and the game, it speaks volumes about how much of an impact she has both on and off the pitch. I spread the word every chance I get about her book, Breakaway, because I love how it is written to give relevant advice to various life situations (at the end of each chapter) as she also tells her story of how she got where she is. Even though it is geared to younger readers, the life lessons are relevant to any age. So, as much as I enthusiastically recommend it to the intended audience, adults of all ages could learn a thing or two, relate to it, and be inspired. Alex Morgan is so young and this part of her journey gives us the very beginning to current....but I also see Alex Morgan writing her full autobiography someday, when all is said and done, and it, too, will be AMAZING. Her story is truly touching, and how she handles it so gracefully and professionally is profound. 10 Stars! Get Breakaway and The Kicks series for your kids....they will love them, learn something along the way, and be inspired to live their dreams no matter what obstacles they face. Alex Morgan is the epitome of accomplishing greatness in the face of adversity. What a story.

From 10 Year old boy ______________________ Alex did a great job writing this book and I loved the inspirational paragraph at the end of each chapter. I now think how I can relate to the paragraph. Right now I'm reading all the young readers soccer biography and so far I've read: Forward, My Story - Abby Wambach, All Heart - Carli Lloyd, The Keeper, The Unguarded Story of Tim Howard - Tim Howard, and Breakaway, Beyond the Goal - Alex Morgan (this copy). This book by Alex Morgan was my favorite. She no only tells her experiences but give detail that none of the others have given. Her book is not just about her story but gives inspiration for young athletes. Also this book is fairly recent (published: January 2015, Updated after the 2015 world cup) compared to the others and having a longer impressive 300+ pages. Also I loved the photos of her when she was little. Not all authors can include those so I think that was special. Alex is the youngest of all the books I've read but has the biggest story. My 13 year daughter loved this book. She is a big soccer lover and Alex Morgan fan and I was happy to find this book for her. She says it is very inspiring to read and gives you tips to be a good person all around and a soccer player. The front cover of the book is a poster if you flip it around- we hung it up. She also mentions other soccer US players including Abby Wambach, Tobin Heath, Carli Lloyd, Allie Long Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe, Kelly O'Hara, and more. She talks about her life story- it is not all perfect and talks about her ups and downs. I think it is a great book for all ages- especially soccer players.

The very readable and inspiring story of one of the most talented women in professional soccer today. Her tone is positive and upbeat as she tells the story of her journey to become a professional player. She started as a child in California and never wavered on her road to get there. She kept setting and completing goals for each step of her journey. Written to inspire and support kids to dream and work towards those dreams.

This is a great book for kids about Alex Morgan. It’s got larger font and some pictures in the center. It’s a great way to learn about her life and her soccer career.

Bought this for my granddaughter who is a Hughe Alex Morgan fan. She was thrilled and excited to learn more about her favorite player.

My daughter did a book report and really wanted to focus on a sports star, so this ended up being our choice. Although I was hoping for a Civil Rights leader or woman who overcame the odds, this was definitely kid-appropriate and kept things simple (big hurdles in Morgan's life were sports injuries and family).

Daughter loved this book

I bought this book for my 10yr old daughter and she LOVES it! She brings the book wherever she goes and reads a bit every chance she gets. The book is well written and easy to read. Alex Morgan is inspiring. She really speaks to the readers and ends each chapter with some advice, words of wisdom or food for thought. I’m soooo glad I found this book. Highly recommended!
