Does this work with 5ghz internet?

No, it only works at 2.4Ghz. You really only want it on 2.4Ghz because it doesn't require 5Ghz bandwidth/throughput and 2.4Ghz is more consistent at longer distances and better at penetrating through walls.

I have the 1080p version and was wonder if 2k is worth upgrading?

I wouldn't suggest giving TP-Link/Tapo any more money until they implement certain obvious upgrades in their app: 1.) the ability to protect certain clips saved on the micro SD card so that they are not over-written in the loop-recording mode, 2.) the ability to set panning limits left-right/up-down for the auto-pan mode. Once they get these limitations fixed, I would heartily suggest upgrading and being loyal to Tapo for all your security camera needs.

No. The Tapo app is available for free on iOS and Android.

Is there an option to hear your pet/child and not let them hear me while viewing?

Yes! You can view and hear the child/children without them knowing. To speak to them you have too hold the microphone button in the app.
