Will this work on embroidery machines?

If the machine has a PCMCIA slot, then yes it will work. Not sure what type of files you'll load onto the card, but I am sure 512MB will be quite compatible. I would say anything up to 2GB would be compatible with more machines and operating systems. Once you start getting into 4GB+ and HC (high capacity) cards, then things begin to get a little finicky.

I have a much older janome memory craft 5700. will this work? and does it have tiny pin holes or elongated slots?

If the Janome has a PSMCIA slot it will. This uses a connection with long pins, the slots on the side are used only for centering and correct orientation when setting the adapter into the port.
