Black Cats & Evil Eyes: A Book of Old-Fashioned Superstitions Review: Cute and interesting book - I found this randomly in BAM one day and didnt get it at the time and regretted it like crazy so I finally got it on here and I was so happy I did. This book it such a fun quick read or just to read randomly if you're really interested in superstitions. I didn't know about half of these that's in this book. I really adore this book. I feel like it's good companion if you like witchy stuff. I know it doesnt really have anything to do with witches. I think it's a pretty informative book. I wouldn't mind having more books like this. I think would be a good coffee table book too. Review: For curious kids and adults! - I bought this book at the request of my grand daughter and it looked so good I had to quickly wrap it so I wouldn't keep it. It's full of information and explanations sbout what we know as magic, beliefs and secrets! Fun and informative!

happy to give this as a gift
I flipped through it, and it seems like a good value for the price. It doesn't go into very much depth about each topic, but it makes a nice casual read. It can be read straight through, or you can skip around to what interests you. It has some simple illustrations.

A Fun Read
If you’ve ever wondered where superstitions began, read this book. Plenty of information as to the origins of many, plus it’s entertaining.

I love this quirky wee book, it's full of superstitions, some that I knew about, and some new ones. Love this book, a great wee find. Would definitely recommend.

Very interesting and informative, as many of the superstitions and sayings I had never heard of. I was amazed that some are quite modern. It's amazing that in the 21st century we still are a little bit superstions, even though we don't like tto admit it.

Fascinating accounts of some well known and more obscure superstitions. I am about to read this author's next book as I liked this one so much.

A decent book covering a broad array of different superstitions, and broadly well-researched and formatted-- however, it is let down in places by a number of minor research errors-- Wicca is not a survival of ancient pagan traditions (it is a modern invention of the 20th century born of outdated anthropological theories-- that being the Witch Cult Hypothesis of Margaret Murray), the term 'Chime child/chime children' was coined by the writer Ruth Tongue, and there is no such thing as the 'Slavic pagan festival of Ostara'. This book is thus not as good as One For Sorrow, which is sad.

Fascinating book which breaks down all the most well known superstitions and gives an explanation as to how it came about and why. The book is very well researched and written in a warm and entertaining manner.
