The timer can of course be taken off and placed on the counter, or just about anywhere else. There's even a nifty little hook (folds down into the back side if not in use) if you choose to hang it on a narrow peg or something.The numbers on the display are easy to see. I can see them clearly from above the stove to where I often sit, 30 feet away in the living room.There are three volume settings - two are audible and the third is no sound. When the timer goes off I can clearly hear the lower beeping sound from 30 feet away, but if the TV is on I prefer it on the higher setting.The only change I would make for this timer is for it to be rechargeable instead of battery powered (runs on three AAA batteries which were included), but that doesn't take away from this being a 5-star timer, in my opinion.
