Initially, I tried to place the door closure sensor (magnetic) on the side of the door, but it just hit the cable when opening the door. I then tried to place it on the door next to the track, but the stationary (wired) part of the sensor just got run-over by the track wheels. Placing the sensor on TOP of the door, however, worked great. I was able to drill some pilot holes and use sheet metal screws to keep the moving portion fixed to the door while some wood screws affixed the stationary portion to the frame on the garage. Routing the cable up and over the torsion bar kept it safely out of the way from any moving parts. This is by far the easiest configuration for the sensor. As for the opener, I wanted to have it on the wall where it would be serviceable as opposed to overhead on the belt-driven opener, as the instructions suggest. To do this, I was able to use a light-gauge extension wire (twisted pair) and tap into the garage door opener button already mounted to the wall. Since it's just a two-wire system and shorting the circuit opens/closes the door, it seems you can extend it 20' or more without any issue. It would be nice if an extension wire were included, as this type of install seems nice. Regarding mounting the unit, it comes with double-sided tape but it would be nice to have some holes for wall-mounting, as I chose to do. It's pretty lightweight, however, so even some screw-down zip-ties could do the job. All said, I love this thing and will update the review if anything goes wrong! (Story time) I have had other smart garage door openers with various levels of satisfaction. For example, one tied to an alarm system that required a subscription (lame) and was extremely slow to respond opening or closing, the other no subscription but the wireless sensor on the garage door that let the system know if the door was closed or open would often loose its connection to the control unit. The control unit itself would often loose connection to the app or need to be reset even though the WiFi signal was strong by the app standard. Beside the technical issues the second device worked pretty well when it did and it had the ability to use a third party app to connect it to the Apple HomeKit and that was awesome. Unfortunately they disabled the API connection and I really enjoyed the the HomeKit features to the point I never opened the app itself. This particular device is probably the simplest smart garage door opener I’ve seen. Simple meaning it connects to the same momentary switch ports that the wall mounted button uses, no sending a wireless signal. The door status sensor, also simple, using a rudimentary sensor with a magnet connected by a very long cable to the control unit to let the system know when the door is open or closed. That being said, the actual physical setup is a bit more involved because you need to connect and run wires but the app setup is much quicker and easier once you have created your account. In fact after the physical instal you scan the HomeKit QR code and it’s down hill from there, super quick and easy. Now I have CarPlay integration and the ability to ask Siri to open the garage door when I’m on the motorbike. Also, because this device operates as a momentary switch there is no delay or flashing lights when you push the button to close the door and there is no delay in opening or closing the door, it’s pretty responsive and I like that. You can set the device to sound an alarm when the door closes but no flashing lights. Specifically, I would like to be able to use schedules to ensure it's open/close when I need it to be, use voice control w/ Alexa, and open/close the door from my iPhone. This succeeds at all of the above. I previously had a Wyze cam w/ garage door controller. It was a really clunky solution and didn't do well at the above three requirements. You could only schedule it to close, but not open (supposedly for security reasons?? Dumb). It wasn't compatible with Alexa. And you had to go several layers deep in the Wyze app to get to the Open/Close button, which is really frustrating. There is no way to link it to the home screen that I'm aware of. The Meross is compatible out of the box with Alexa. I was able to quickly connect it to Alexa and setup a voice pin. I also setup routines in Alexa that automatically close the door when I go to bed or leave the house. I'm kind of annoyed I had to download yet another app and setup an account for Meross (and then for Smart Things), but it's well worth it for only $25 (as opposed to spending much more on a brand name unit). I used the Smart Things app to setup a schedule that opens the garage door around the time my kids get off the school bus. Another benefit of Smart Things is that they have an iPhone widget. I created Open and Close routines in SmartThings that I can now click from my iPhone home screen via the SmartThings widget. That is perhaps the biggest plus so far over the Wyze Cam Garage Door Opener. The Meross is also a significantly more elegant, less clunky solution. The Wyze Cam garage door controller was kind of a wierd frankenstein device that used AI via the camera to read a barcode on your garage door to tell if it was open or closed. It required both a camera + a controller unit, which then required a bunch of wires that had to be managed. Other than to open/close the garage door, the camera wasn't very useful in that particular position. Not to mention the barcode you have to place on your garage door. It was just really clunky. Overall, I am very happy with the Meross, especially at the price point.
