SmallRig NATO Rail Handle, Top Handgrip with Mounting Points, Cold Shoe Mount for Camcorder Camera Cage - 1955

4 5/8” length x 2 5/8” height x 1”x1” handle. I only took it out of the box for a few minutes to get the feel of the handle. So in no way is this a comprehensive opinion or review. It was in a 3 way elimination series. the vertical post thickness that attaches the handle, it seemed a tad thick. However there’s not as much room on the handle to adequately hold it to the rear of the post. I think it’s meant to have your finger(s] splay around the center post. The GH5 cage I got has a fixed position nato rail, so without having a top cheese plate moving the handle forward to give you a grip in front of the post is impractical due to lack of space. So it compact and has nato, but my cage does not have a nato rail and I opted not to screw the baseplate on bun24268b, which would then only give me a fixed balance point at the cage left and right instead of front to rear? More of the fault of the default GH5 mounting cage without the addition of mounting (cheese) plates on top of the cage. For reference XL the grease monkey gloves and large size in Home Depot orange gloves.

The one thing I look for in a cage handle, is the ability to quickly breakdown and build my rig depending on what I am shooting next. This cage handle has a Nato rail mount that gives me that versatility that I need. To be able to quickly remove the handle, and place the camera on a gimbal is a huge time saver. And as everyone knows, time is money. Being able to quickly prepare from shot to shot, situation to situation is extremely important when shooting a film. I have three cameras now. I just recently got the third camera, which was when I ordered another one of these cage handles. So, if you want to be able to shoot quickly, this cage handle is a must have.

I have to say at first I was not feeling comfortable putting it on my very expensive camera but as I start using it it just feels it belongs there. You will not be disappointed it is great quality easy to use. Also very easy to take apart and very Secure.

I love this handle and have gotten 2+ years out of it. The NATO connection is really secure and I've used it with quite heavy rigs (20-25lbs) with no problem. But I recently took this thing on a run-and-gun shoot that required walking around quite a bit from location to location. After about 3-4 hours of holding the camera, I noticed my hand started to develop what looked like blisters, and was getting uncomfortable so I put on gloves for the remainder of the day. Basically, this handle is great, but put on gloves if you plan to hold it for extended periods of time. The semi-rough edges and grooves on this handle won't be kind to your hands after a while.

Once I figured out how useful the NATO rail system was, I got rid of all of my other handles from smallrig and others that were simply bolt-on. I had another small rig Neto handle that had mounting points all over it, but return that one and I’m very happy with the feel and length of this handle, there’s a slight contour that helps with the fit for the hand, looks and feels much better.

Everything works great, the screw comes kind of loose, could just be the way I’m handling it tho. Way easier to start/stop recording instead of reaching around to press it

Great handle design! Easily adjustable, and it’s really nice that it includes a built-in spot to store the included hex wrench. Comfortable design that is just the right length for handling, but short enough not to get in the way. Useful mounting points all over, including the extra cold shoe on top.

Zunächst einmal zur Kabel-Situation - hier ist die Beschreibung (zumindest zum Stand der Rezension) falsch bzw. irreführend, entsprechend habe ich ein Fotos dazu angefügt. - Ein Kabel ist für Canon Kameras, das ist das mit dem schwarzen Stecker. - Ein Kabel ist für (ältere?) Sonys bei, das ist der "verlängerte" Micro-USB Anschluss der NICHT mit "normalen" Micro USB Kameras kompatibel ist. - Zuletzt ist da das Kabel mit 2,5mm Klinke - Das ist zB für Panasonic(Lumix) gedacht und geht in den Remote und nicht Tether Port! Es sollte auch mit einigen anderen Kameras funktionieren mit einem solchen Klinken-Port. Es liegt KEIN USB-C zu USB-C Kabel bei. Und nun zum restlichen Review ;) Positiv kann man dirket schon mal die Verpackung hervorheben - Kein Plastik! Tüten, Polsterung, etc, alles aus Papier. Da dürfen sich andere Hersteller gerne mal eine Scheibe abschneiden. Der Handle hängt an meiner Lumix G9 bzw. deren Cage - Da GH5 und GH6 kompatibel waren, bin ich davon ausgegangen, dass das auch hier der Fall sein würde, und so ist es auch. Ich hatte zuvor bereits den normalen Cold Shoe Top Handle von SmallRig und die Unterschiede sind eigentlich kaum erwähnenswert, bis auf den Knopf natürlich. Er ist aber minimal dicker und liegt meiner Meinung nach dadurch etwas besser in der Hand. Der Knopf selbst, naja. Druckpunkt ist okay. Es handelt sich hier lediglich um einen Auslöser, es gibt keine halbe Position für den Fokus. Er lässt sich nicht umpositionieren. Möchte man den Handle also für eine andere Gewichtsverteilung andersherum benutzen, ist der Knopf fast nutzlos. Verarbeitung ist eigentlich, wie man es von SmallRig kennt, sehr gut und der Handle ist wieder schön leicht, lässt sich problemlos auf den Cage schrauben und sitzt stabil. Dazu gibt es etliche Montagemöglichkeiten. Aufgefallen ist mir aber, dass an den Kanten Streifen entlang gehen. Das könnte eine Designentscheidung sein, wirkt aber eher wie Spuren vom Fräsen, da diese Spuren nicht auf den Produktbildern zu sehen sind und der "normale" Handle diese auch nicht aufweist. Es fällt aber auch nur auf, wenn man beide nebeneinander hat und stört in keinster Weise. Generell bin ich sehr angetan von vielen SmallRig Produkten, bedeutet aber auch, dass ich hier gewisse Maßstäbe ansetze. Was mich noch nicht so ganz überzeugt, ist der Preis. Der "normale" Handle kostet (zumindest auf Amazon) etwas weniger als die Hälfte. Für einen Aufnahmeknopf das doppelte bezahlen - das muss jeder für sich selbst wissen. Praktisch ist er aber allemal.

Der Smallrig Top-Halter kam in einem einfach und nett gestalteten Karton. Im Inneren befinden sich der Halter sowie verschiedene Kabel für Kameras verschiedener Hersteller. In Kombination mit einem Kamera-Käfig lässt sich der Halter ohne große Schwierigkeiten montieren, sodass die Kamera gut geschützt ist. Der solide und massive Henkel schützt wirkungsvoll vor Beschädigungen. Der Halter bietet eine praktische Aufnahmefunktion mit verschiedenen Kabeln, um Geräte unterschiedlicher Hersteller zu nutzen. Leider konnte ich das Gerät mit meiner Sony ZV-E10 nicht verwenden, obwohl es explizit für Sony beworben wird. Mit einem älteren Modell von Sony funktionierte es hingegen problemlos. Dank des stabilen Aufbaus ermöglicht der Halter auch bei größeren Setups ein komfortables Betätigen des Aufnahmeknopfs, was sehr praktisch ist. Da das Gerät mit meiner Sony ZV-E10 aber nicht kompatibel ist, vergebe ich nur 2 von 5 Sternen.
