Batteries can also be charged in this charger while off the radio. **Q: My Yaesu CD-41 doesn't keep my radio charged if i charge while radio is powered on.another words charges fully once/insertion,is this normal or def.?** A: I think it has trouble charging while operating. You also need to watch out for a design flaw. The middle contact is a feedback to the charging circuit to determine if the radio is fully charged. It is a direct line to the gate of an ESD sensitive MOSFET. IF the green light is always on when you insert your HT, then the MOSFET may have failed. You will need to replace it and insert a 100M Ohm resistor into that circuit to protect the MOSFET from ESD. I have two of these charges and I have done this with both. Look up CD-41 MOSFET fix on YouTube for the details. **Q: Does anyone with this item know if it has overcharge protection built in ? is it ok to leave it plugged in in the cradle ?** A: Yes it does have overcharge protection and yes you can leave the battery in the charger as long as the battery is fully charged. . **Q: Can you use the charging cable that comes with the yaesu vx-8dr to power the yaesu or must you buy another charging cable?** A: I do not have a vx-8dr. While I love the radio, I found that if I am taking advantage of all the features it offers, the battery drains almost completely within a days usage. The normal charger does charge the radio but it seems like it takes over 6 hours to charge it fully. With this Desk Rapid Charger, I was able to fully charge my radio in about half the speed. The radio fit into the charger very snug and the indicator light makes it easy to see when it is charging and when it is done. I love that base is made of metal and not just all plastic like some other chargers found on the internet. This charger is made with high standards.
