They don't grip smooth boat surfaces or large sea rocks at all. I also didn't care for the straps so much as they don't remain snug on the back of my heels and often fall off enough that I can't walk far in them. I typically wear a 7 1/2 or 8 size shoe so I thought with the adjustable straps this 8 size would fit fine. Perhaps a better fit to go with smaller size instead. I like the vents that keep me from standing in puddle shoes. Husband hates the way they look - and he's right that they're not half as feminine as I'd hoped.
