I bought this to hardwire a Viofo A229 Plus into my 2019 Grand Cherokee so I could both free up a USB port and, more importantly, enable parking mode on the dashcam. My previous vehicle was hit in a parking lot when I wasn't there, so I love the idea of a parking mode to help catch a plate number if it happens on this Jeep. Installation is pretty straight forward, with the only challenge being getting the cables through the firewall (if your fuse box is under the dash, then you won’t have this challenge). I was able to find a posting on a Jeep site with pictures of an existing grommet you can use to pass them through on Jeep WK2 models, so that saved me a lot of trial and error. The other challenge is figuring out which fuses you can tap into on the fuse box, and that info I could not find anywhere, especially since this hardwire kit requires both a +12v positive connection and a switched/accessory connection (as well as a ground). Any mentions I found for my Jeep were people installing kits or radar detectors that only needed one connection. Trying to track that down then eventually having to go through the fuse list and test viable candidates myself took much longer than installing the kit did. So, once you know what fuses to tap and where to go through the firewall (if required), installation is pretty straight forward. Note that if ordering this on Amazon, you’ll need to order two fuse taps separately as there is no option to include them with the kit. There are many available on Amazon, which is where I ordered mine from. Just make sure you order the taps specific for the type of fuses you have in your vehicle- “micro”/ “micro 2” (same), “Mini” or “Low”. You’ll also need two 2A or 5A fuses for the fuse taps. I did find that I had very little cable left over on the side that goes into the engine compartment, and a Jeep WK2 is not a giant vehicle, so depending on where your fuse box is located, you may may have a challenge if you have a full-size SUV or truck. I love that this has a configurable battery voltage limiter on it, so you can have it shut off the parking mode if your battery voltage drops to the preset level. This is great if you live in a cold climate or if your battery or charging system are starting to age as it will avoid killing your battery. I can’t recommend this enough if you have a Viofo dashcam with parking mode available that is compatible with this kit. I assume the HK3, HK3-C and HK5 kits are the same but with the different USB connectors for other Viofo dashcams, so confirm which is right for your camera. Bonus info specifically for Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 folk looking to buy this. As you’ll see in the pictures, I used fuse slot 104 for +12v and fuse slot 90/91 for switched. This worked for me because I have 90/91 set to switched as I don’t need the rear cargo power plug to be on all of the time. Had I had this fuse set to always on, I would have used this as +12v and then used slot 102 for switched. Different years and trim levels may have some differences in terms of which fuses are present or how they are laid out, so take this with a grain of salt, but that should give you a starting point for possible places to use these on your WK2. Also, you'll need two fuse taps to install this. I ordered the set with "Micro 2", not "Low Profile" or "Mini", because that's what my 2019 has. Would assume all WK2s are the same, but if you're not sure, you can check one of your fuses against the picture I added with the yellow fuse sticking out of the tap to make sure yours are the same. The grommet for getting the wires through the firewall are below/behind the glovebox on the inside, and shown in the picture in the engine bay. The ground wire from the kit can go directly to the negative boost post near the fuse box (again, see pic).
