Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good

Brilliant piece of work. You can tell that this book had no "ghost writer" as it is worded exactly as Corey would speak it. You can almost hear his voice in the back of your minds as the words enter your vision. He really makes a great "argument" about wether the seven deadly sins are indeed deadly and includes outrageous personal experiences along the way. This book is not for everyone however. Corey has an extensive vocabulary and uses many words not commonly heard in everyday use.... and metaphors are found on every page. I had no problem following it, but my 17 year old stepson who is a huge fan and couldnt wait to read the book after me.. was completely lost and confused by page 10 and gave up. You have to be familiar with Corey's style of speaking and a good knowledge of underused words to be able to really appreciate his message. If you cannot decipher the meanings behind his song lyrics, you will not easily understand this book. For those that can.... you will have a hard time putting it down! Die hard christians may want to steer clear as well.... as Corey has many agnostic/athiestic views and some may take offense. Being agnostic myself I really related to his ideas. I really enjoyed his first book and hope that he writes another soon!

This is a very sensitive topic but I think it’s worth reviewing this book: My younger teenage brother attempted suicide a couple years ago - he wasn’t successful in taking his life but he is in recovery, doesn’t talk, needs help walking, can’t eat on his own, etc. He has always been a HUGE fan of Corey Taylor, has always loved Slipknot in fact I think I’ve always given him a different Slipknot shirts for Christmas lol. Still do! I had to buy this for him so I could go over and read to him and spend time with him, he was SO interested in this book and was laughing so hard at some parts. I had to step in the other room because I was tearing up because hearing him laugh so hard made me so happy. Corey Taylor is a very cool man, I look up to him a lot, I often think about how much he’s helped my brother in times of darkness.

I've waited for the day I could finally read this book, and I was not disappointed when I finally got too. Tackled this one in a day. It is nice to read a book about such a touchy topic and not have anything sugar coated and reworded. Corey literally says it like it is. It's a way better read than any "auto" biography out there. While he does share personal experiences and stories, each story ties into the book. While fans of Corey already knew to buy this book, I recommend it to anyone, even if you don't listen to Corey's music. You will not be disappointed. I already knew and loved Corey for his music, but this book is just proof that his talent crosses over into the literary world. This book will really make you rethink your own life and open your eyes. He raises awareness in the reader's mind, which is something that isn't done often...... Like I said, I HIGHLY recommend it....

I gave this book a 5 star rating. The reason is Corey spoke the absolute truth about the topic of the Seven Deadly Sins. I have never heard a good take on these, let alone one with truth and research from life-experiences. It was perfectly written with promptness and intelligence. I loved the interjections of humor in between things to break off and kind of let you know that " Hey guys, I've been through this s***, I know what I am talking about here." I can't say enough good things about this piece and I am looking forward to the end of summer when his new book arrives. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have an eye opening experience.

One night recently I stumbled upon some online movies of Corey talking and I thought to myself... geez I remember when Slipknot was just starting to come around and then when they got obscenely popular. This was back when I dyed my hair freaky colors and went through this phase of wearing crazy clothes. And I was like wow I guess we all grow up to look pretty normal looking at the end of the day. But then I thought geez he's way more well spoken than I would have thought. And way more musically diverse. At some point I completely stopped paying attention to who is in what band. And other than 15 year old magazine articles I couldn't have ever told you who was in Slipknot. At the end of the day I bought this book because Corey is reasonably well spoken and having read a few autobiographies documenting the rock life and the tragic childhoods of all the people I read about I wanted something different. I wanted to see what was rattling around in that head of his. His thoughts on stuff instead of a woe is me tale of why it sucks to be a rock star or lets tally how many people I've slept with. And that's what I got with this book. Now the writing style is a complete stream of consciousness which I like to read when dealing with topics like these. I'm a freak like that though and I'll admit it and I'll admit for a lot of people it's going to be a tough read because it flits topic to topic conversationally. There's a degree of language used in this book and depictions of some women that are less than flattering. But I'm also going to throw out there that some of the women depicted put themselves in less than flattering situations. I didn't see any hatred of women in this book. Just statement of some realities. In fact as everything kind of came to a close I saw the complete opposite of hatred. And there's complaints about his ego. I've spent the better part of my life hanging around bands. Lots of bands and people wanting to get famous. I hate to say it but there is a degree of ego and arrogance involved. So I'm not surprised about the degree of ego that comes out in this book whether joking or unintentionally. There is also a degree of ego when you scrape yourself up from nothing but nasty and make something of yourself. You have to have it for survival purposes. So I can't fault him or his writing style for that. I didn't always agree with what he said but I could see where he was coming from and it was an interesting view for me into his thought process. I guess if someone is coming here to find a book by someone humbly talking about their life and music career apologetically... this is not the book. If you're looking for a writer who stepping up and throwing his opinions out there on various topics in a conversational form... this is the book for you.

As other reviewers have said, it's not an autobiography, although it does contain anecdotes and insights into Corey Taylor's life. It's more of a philosophy about what sins are (old and new), what human nature is, and how it all fits into life. Each of the 7 deadly sins has its place, and in Corey T's world, that place isn't always where you expect. In this book, Corey Taylor's thoughts are clear and well developed, and his style is conversational. It's surprisingly clever in places. From the moment I picked it up, it held my interest and kept it throughout. You feel like you're listening to him talk (where's that audio book?) It's well worth the read.

This book is unbelievably difficult to put down. If you like Slipknot or Stone Sour, particularly the style of lyricism used, you will love this book. THIS BOOK IS NOT AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY. This book is themed. As the title suggests it is about the Seven Deadly Sins. Particularly why they are horse s*** and no guide for a moral life. The book is both hilarious and intelligent. Each chapter discusses a different sin which is explained, counter examples are given for why it doesn't make sense, stories are employed from Corey's past to better drive home the point, then Corey says something that makes you laugh for ten minutes and you start on the next chapter. In the end, the sins are replaced by more accurate ones. Overall, great book.

Corey Taylor does a great job breaking down the Seven Deadly Sins and explaining how he feels about the seriousness of them or lack thereof. He recounts various stories of him growing up and living his life to the fullest while handily committing every sin on the list. I really enjoyed his writing style and could agree with a lot of the points that he made throughout the book. He ends the book with a list of Seven Deadly Sins that he believes should be the updated list for the day and age we live in. I think his list hits the nail on the head and they truly live up to the word "Deadly" ... This book is a great read that I highly recommend!

This is not an autobiography, only the usual alcoholic paternalistic schmoozing. He is famous so he thinks he is clever. You don't have to read this.

Anyone who has listened to Corey voice his opinions before had a good idea of what we were going to get when we picked up this book. Anyone who read his columns in Rock Sound or was a fan early enough to frequent an old message board years ago when 'GBM' used to post his thoughts knew we were going to get something honest, brutal, funny but something that also made you think things through a little more. Like he mentions in the book, you don't need a degree to write about something if you have lived it, most of us wont admit to 'sins' like envy, greed and gluttony but here is this guy, who is adored by ALOT of fans, admitting to each and every one and giving us very explicit examples. Great book Corey, I hope we get to hear more from you in this capacity again.
