Dog laughed and barked even more like I didn't exist. The whistle isn't "silent" like I imagined a dog whistle to be, so the noise in the yard was doubled as the dog barked and I blew into this while my wife laughed at me. Maybe it works on some dogs or while used by someone with larger lungs, but for my family this was a waste of money.We are going to use the command, "Want a treat?" I'll confess we were almost to the point at looking at the barking deterrent collars (NOT the shock ones though). I saw this and gave it a try. It has helped, a lot. It doesn't seem to hurt in any way, it just gets their attention, and a good 'ol fashioned head tilt. We give a verbal command first, then if they keep barking they get a click, and if all that fails, the whistle.
