Music isn’t mixed with a dedicated channel for the bass. The right hand speaker has RCA jacks as well as other connections, and it handles the amplification. So I think a turntable without a pre-amp will work. **Q: Is the remote necessary to access Bluetooth and other features?** A: No. You can select the input (Bluetooth, optical, coaxial, etc.) and control the volume, bass, and treble via readily accessible buttons on the right side of one of the speakers. I might add that these speakers are astonishingly good, with outstanding sound reproduction in the treble, mid-range, and bass. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great sound *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on 8 March 2024* These speakers have a nice, wide response, including both the lower-mid range (rarely adequate without full tower speakers) and the sub range. I do like the option to add a sub, but it's completely unnecessary for me.I use them in my 13'x13' living room. They can get WAY louder than I'm comfortable with, so I never feel like I'm thrashing them.I have them connected to my computer's 3.5mm headphone/line-out port. I keep my computer's volume at about 50% and use the speakers' volume knob for adjustment. There is a VERY faint hum when I'm right next to them with no music playing, but it's too quiet to notice if I'm not paying close attention.They seem to draw a steady 9.2 W throughout the range of what I find comfortable. I'm not an audiophile, so I'm not sure what that means.The bass/treble knobs have a physical range with detents for zero, while the volume knob is continuous with incremental detents like a mouse's scroll wheel. Bass/treble, being mechanical, are remembered when you shut the speakers off, while volume resets. If I had a remote for my computer's volume I'd leave them at their default and use that instead.The speakers really aren't meant to sit on a desk, but that's how I use them. Mostly I listen to them from across the room, but while I'm at my desk they sound just fine turned way down.Someday when I'm rich I'll buy a full set of Edifiers because I can, but right now these are more than adequate! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ High Quality Sound For The Price! *by H***Y on Reviewed in Canada on 27 July 2023* I replaced a set of BIC pl980 towers with these due to them being shorter and able to fit under a fixed projector screen. The towers are 3 way with dual 8inch passive radiators.. I kid you not, these sound very similar. The towers have the edge in stereo image because theyre almost 60 inches tall with a horned tweeter, and this is definitely not a fair comparison because I have to place these bookshelf speakers directly on the floor, meaning I'm getting tons of extra boom and a tweeter placed at a low height. But all in all, great speakers man, no complaints at all for a small to medium sized room. Sound stage is wide, the range of the speakers are full enough and the quality and feel of the product is legit, no complaints for the price. Well done Edifier! never heard of the brand before this purchase but I'm glad to be a part of the team now. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excelentes *by A***5 on Reviewed in Mexico on 7 April 2023* Clásicas por apariencia y algo corpulentas, las R2850DB son bastante modernas por funcionalidad siendo activas – integran múltiples amplificadores de Texas Instruments (Clase D) separados en cada vía (Tri-amping) e incorporan una fuente de poder por Impulsos. Cuentan con varias Entradas, incluyendo Bluetooth aptX 5.1 y S/PDIF Coaxial. Disponen de Salida para subwoofer dedicado, que al usarse – corta frecuencias bajas (10-100Hz) en bocinas, aliviándolas y definiendo aun más su sonido.R2850DB reproducen correctamente cualquier estilo de música ya que la disponibilidad de 3 vías (usando woofers no tan caros) les permite leer mejor las frecuencias medias. La división de frecuencias en 220Hz (bajas/medias) y en 2700Hz (medias/altas) – se logra a perfección, ya que en cada altavoz se realiza mediante un Procesador Digital y no el filtro electrónico pasivo.Representando el tope de la línea “R” de Edifier – ofrecen perspectiva de sonido con Profundidad, Respiración y Escala hasta mayores (gracias a corpulencia) que en modelos de la línea “S” (gama superior). A pesar de que los Altos de R2850DB no son tan definidos como en la línea “S” mencionada – a mi criterio son aceptables. Sus Medios son casi impecables (muy destacables) y los Bajos más que admisibles (los 2x subwoofers integrados son capaces de hacer temblar ventanas al usar pistas de audio especiales). Son unas bocinas de campo cercano, apropiadas tanto para la música como para las películas.Teóricamente, su entrada digital Coaxial (a priori mejor que la Óptica) es la más preferible para conectar bocinas a fuente de señal (así se realizan menos conversiones). Para esto, uso la tarjeta de transporte digital CM6631A (con unidad de aislamiento galvánico y 3 relojes), compatible con Windows y drivers ASIO. Pero en realidad por RCA analógico, su sonido también es excelente y con diferencia poco perceptible.Hechas de MDF de 16-18mm son muy robustas y algo corpulentas. De hecho su corpulencia, podría ser punto en contra para usuarios que no viven solos por el espacio ocupado. Yo tuve que preparar unos soportes propios, alojando las bocinas más abajo del nivel de mesa de TV para disimular su tamaño.Debido a las características de amplificadores de Clase D, al modo Standby que realmente aquí nunca corta el suministro de energía, y a la ventilación deficiente dentro de altavoz – es vital apagar las R2850DB cuando no se usen y por las noches del Enchufe de Corriente, para alargar su vida útil evitando el calentamiento prolongado de condensadores.Conclusión: Por este dinero es poco probable que algo suene mejor que Edifier R2850DB.
