Echo Park, L.A. is the setting for a gang movie that beats the competition every way it knows how. Sad Girl and Mousie have fallen out over a guy. But when he's murdered by a rival gang-leader, it's time for the girls to take control! Review: 90s Style, Strong Female Characters, & Friendship - Allison Anders is one of my favorite directors & I think this film is her best. It's a great, well written story about teenage girls growing up in Echo Park in the early '90s. If you know anything about Echo Park now it is being taking over by gentrification. In the '90s though it was home to a Latin@ population. The story focuses on the friendship of 2 teenage girls & the teenage boy that comes between them & is their baby daddy. Yes, each of them has a baby by him. He ends up being killed & the girls & their rivalry & become friends again. I like this movie b/c the dialogue is very real & well written. Watch this movie if you're interested in '90s fashion & strong female characters. This movie's central characters are fully developed, well rounded women. The ending may surprise & shock you, but that's one of my favorite parts of this movie. Review: Always have loved this movie - Always have loved this movie

Really good movie
If you haven’t seen this movie you should it’s really good All it’s about is two girls getting with the same guy and then they get pregnant by him also the girls are best friends too the dad dies and it has a lot of gangs and drugs and stuff and the girls have to try and find away to help their babies

90’s hidden gem
I first saw this movie as a teenager in the 90s. Rewatching it again in 2024 brought back great memories. Having grown up in Los Angeles, the characters portrayed in the film are very much like friends I had growing up. The actors’ portrayals of gang members was very authentic. No punches are held as Mi Vida Loca accurately portrays teen pregnancy, gun violence, drug dealing, car culture, and gang culture but from the female perspective. The actress who played sad girl is absolutely beautiful and I still have a crush on her to this day. I feel Jesse Borrego did an excellent job playing the film’s villain and genuinely scared me as a kid growing up. Overall well written with a complete journey of the gangster girls whom were portrayed.
