Excellent Quality & Price
Update 8 Apr 2024 - This capillary rope is too efficient :) I have had to remove some of the lengths from my sub-irrigating trays because the rope is delivering too much water to the matting and plants. I thought I would try this capillary rope after the one I bought previously shot up in price to over £13 for 20m. I am glad I did, not only is this considerably cheaper, it is also thicker. I use this rope to make sub-irrigating pots and trays. Making them is very easy (see my photos) and works out a lot cheaper than buying the 'contraptions' I see being sold. Sub-irrigation is also better for the plants and reduces water usage. A simple alternative for pots is to put lengths of the rope through the holes in the bottom (or a bunch of lengths through the centre hole) and stand the pot on feet in a saucer of water. Just make sure you fill the pot with compost and/or coir (so it is in contact with the rope inside the bottom of the pot) and do not put gravel or broken pot in the bottom, which only serves to raise the water table in a pot anyway.

Good
I needed a watering system for my tomatoes while I was away for a week. I tried these but I don't know if they worked or not. But the tub of water I put them in had gone when I got back and my plants didn't die, so I think they worked.

Excellent for watering house plants.
I have found this perfect for watering my pot plants while I go on extended holiday. I have found that they can supply too much water, so tie multiple knots in the middle to slow the flow of water down. On reflection, I should probably have gone for a smaller size. I use empty milk containers for the water.

Kept tge seedlings alive whilst away for 10 days in the summer
Used the thinnest one to keep the seedlings going last summer whilst on holiday. We used a basin on the drainer and the plants in trays in the sink with the wick running to the trays.

Something that actually works
Bought this as if it didn't work it wasn't going to break the bank. Surprisingly it works really well. At the moment I have quite a few tomato plants in buckets, and a lot of smaller ones in smaller pots, plus various other veggies in smaller pots. I filled a 40L trug with water and placed 7 of my buckets around it above the height of the buckets and followed the instructions. Good idea to tie weights (nuts, bolts etc) to the end of the wick going in the water so it sinks to the bottom. Then wet the wick, shove it in the plantpot and leave. I did the same with my other plants. As someone else said, it's a bit of trial and error. I found that 6mm was too thick for the smaller plants and the water was leaking out into the trays they were sat in but perfect for the plants in buckets. I have just ordered some more but in a 4mm diameter for the smaller plants. The good thing is that not only does it work to water my plants if I go away, but means that I don't have to water my plants every morning individually. I can just fill up the container every 3 or 4 days and leave them to water themselves.

Really works. Fun but tricky. Practise first before use it on a real plant.
This self-watering wick cord truly works —easy to set up but just as easy to get wrong without proper preparation. If you’re new to using self-watering wicks, I highly recommend dedicating at least three days to understanding how it works and adjusting it to suit your needs. Reading the instructions carefully is crucial. I ordered a thick cord, and as a thoughtful bonus, the package included a thinner cord, which turned out to be extremely helpful for my setup. The effectiveness of the wick largely depends on your environment and how closely you follow the instructions. In my case, living in the hot and slightly humid climate of Australia (30–36°C), I found that the wick delivered water too quickly for my small plant, which only requires 120 ml per week. To address this, I experimented with the included thinner cord. Here’s what worked for me: I tested the wicking process by transferring water between two containers rather than directly watering my plant. By gradually adding ***tight*** knots to the cord (ensuring the knots remained above water), I managed to slow the water flow to an ideal rate. Once I was satisfied, I replaced the receiving container with my plant pot. If the water transfer rate is too slow without any knots and you want to deliver water faster then you may need to use a thicker cord or multiple cords simultaneously. Testing your setup thoroughly before using it with real plants—especially if you’re preparing for a holiday—is essential. Although I was tempted to deduct a star for the tricky initial setup, I realised that this would be unfair. Much like a great guitar in the hands of a beginner, the potential of this product shines only when you take the time to learn how to use it effectively. For me, this cord is a 5 stars.
