## Description

Before electric cooking devices were common, cast iron waffle irons were the standard and used on stoves, open fires and woodstoves. This design is the same diameter as our 1100, but the Pie Iron style removable handles make it perfect for BBQ grill use. Original design by Rome.

Review: Awesome waffle maker - I received this waffle maker today in the Mail. I boiled the waffle plates then ran them under cold water to see the wax that was left. I used a scouring pad to scratch off the wax and dipped them in boiling water again and repeated the process until all the wax wAs off. I decided to wait until after I got back from the store to season it, not a good idea the plates had already started to rust. I boiled the plates again dried them, put canola oil all over, took the handles off, and baked them in the oven at 350 for one hour. After the waffle iron cooled I heated them on my gas stove. Next, I Sprayed them with nonstick spray and added the waffle mix. I Cooked the waffle for 1minute on each side the waffles were delicious. I'm glad I made this purchase and will be using it when we camp this Friday.
Review: Pie Irons are Fun Tools to Use - We have used Pie Irons for all kinds of food & the kids love it. If you have a wood stove & the power goes out they sure come in handy to cook a meal. They are amazing utensils to use. Sometimes I feel like I'm experiencing what our women pioneers did when they had to be creative along the trails. Simple was always best in those conditions but sometimes using a pie iron can put variety on the table. They are easy to use. You just need to get use to them just like when cooking with a camp Dutch Oven. But I didn't know you could get a Waffle Iron. So my family is looking forward to using them. It will be interesting to see what they come up with, with their own recipes.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: any one ever use this at home on a gas stove... and can the wooden handels be removed to do an oven type seasoning ?**
A: yes, the wooden handles can be removed and it can be oven season. the other thing is that it is real versatile I use it on my gas stove as well as a campfire

**Q: Is it only the wooden part of the handles that is removable, or does the entire metal handle come off along with the wooden part?**
A: The entire handle unscrews, which makes it much easier to season before use.

**Q: If you take the handles off for use on a gas stove, is it hard to open the lid and to turn the waffle iron over?**
A: It is pretty heavy even without the handles. You can use a heavy-duty tongs or the "Ov glove." I didn't care too much for this iron - it's made in China and even after I followed all the pre-cooking instructions, it still has a bad metallic smell, and I don't really trust whatever metals this was made from in China.....

**Q: Where is it made?**
A: I believe it's made in China, but I would have to check... We have been quite pleased with it's function. We did season and condition it thoroughly before use. I recommend this stuff:http://www.amazon.com/Camp-Chef-CSC-8-Cast-Iron-Conditioner/dp/B000H86C9I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pie Irons are Fun Tools to Use

### ⭐ Very impractical while camping
*by C***E on August 7, 2015*

Although this seemed like a great idea, it was anything but. I seasoned it well in my oven before using and practiced with it on my stove at home prior to taking it camping. I finally got it down... not burned, not sticking. When we took it camping, our first waffle burned and stuck something fierce. It was horrible. We ended up with pancakes instead. It's very difficult for one person to fill with batter because it opens so wide and then comes apart. It was just an overall bad experience. We threw ours away :(
