Now that you have owned for a bit, anyone had any issues with the down/feathers poking through after significant usage or are the pillows flattening?

these are accent pillows (not bed pillows), so while all down flattens, these are not getting a great deal of use. They do see to be good quality and do fluff nice. I do not have feathers poking out (which all down does as well) because they are in a pretty thick pillow casing/ there are pillow protectors that help stop this if your casing is thinner

Can you ensure that there is no live-plucking of birds involved?

I did not pluck a single bird. Alive or deceased. Scouts honor.

Are these pillows firm so that you can use them for sitting and reading in bed?

Yes - very firm and gives lots of support to your back.

What size pillow covers should I get for these?

2 inches smaller - if you want to be able to do the popular look of "chopping" it in the middle http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/24180925/list/to-chop-or-not-to-chop - I have this pillows did 2" smaller on the cover and I can do the chop or not. On pillows where I bought the same size sham as the pillow case- the chop is impossible to do.
