What is the little tool that the trainer comes with that says free gift

It's a little multi tool that acts at many things: a bottle opener, a knife, etc. Its basically a square shaped Swiss Army knife that you keep if your pocket.

Right out of the box, one of the handles is too tight and doesn't turn smooth at all. Is this a mistake on my knife in particular? Or a design flaw?

As all new butterfly knives and trainers are made, you have to "break it in". This means you must attempt to open the knife and close the knife repeatedly, until the grease around the frame loosens and after about 2-3 hours of total flip time it should be fine.

While not technically spring loaded, there is a spring, it's on the latch that holds it closed. The opening of the knife is based on hand movement. On that note, many states, like Michigan, would consider it illegal to carry a true butterfly knife because it is mechanical...and dangerous.
