Probably the next best thing to an ice dispenser in the fridge
I bought the plumbing kit for mine since I didn’t like having to refill it all the time. With that being said, I still clean the reservoir out every once in awhile. Mine’s next to the sink so I put the front portion of the maker over the sink and pull the drain plug. If you have the water line to it, just make sure the ice maker is off (better yet, unplug it) so it won’t fill when draining. It is a bit noisy when it’s making ice, but it’s fun to watch! Once it’s done making ice, the maker is virtually silent. The water that is dispensed is chilled, but not cold. But that’s the way I like it. We never turn ours off. If any ice melts, it drains into the reservoir and “recycles” the water. We even take some of the ice out and put it in the ice cube bin in the freezer. Aside from the noise, (it’s tolerable but does add noise to the kitchen) I really like this ice maker! I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again.

It’s OK, not great
I wished I didn’t waste my almost $300 on this product. Yes, it does make ice. But barely makes enough ice for one person let alone too. If you have more than two people in your house, forget it. If I get a cup of ice and we’re getting ready to leave the house, there’s not enough ice left for my wife, so it’s good for one person. I had a barbecue at my house the other day and it was embarrassing that I spent $300 on an icemaker and we had to go buy bags of ice because this thing is damn near worthless. Yes, it does make ice but one cup at a time. I would have returned it, but I went past the date of return now I’m stuck with it. So all I can do now is complain. And my wife told me she never wants me to hear me complain about it again because I should’ve returned it before it went past the date

Small qty - less effective ice
Produces very little amounts of ice at a time before the "full" sensor is blocked. About one glass worth is considered "full". Also, there is no storage refrigeration to keep what ice is made hard. It actively melts the moment its made making this ice less effective as its already breaking and chaulky before you even use it. Not really sure the use-case of this machine unless you're a solo-living person who wants one glass of ice per hour. Look elsewhere for families of 2 or more people. Pros - makes ice fast - just doesn't store enough.

Good Water Dispenser, but Ice Dispenses Painfully Slow for the Price
The Whynter IDC‑221SC works well as a countertop water dispenser, but it’s very bulky and the ice‑dispensing speed is extremely slow. It produces ice, but getting it out takes much longer than it should, which makes it less convenient for daily use. For something at this price point, I expected faster performance and a bit more efficiency. As a water dispenser it’s solid, but the ice function really holds it back. Good news is I’ve had no issues with leaked or problems of any kind.

Performs exactly as advertised
I have had this unit for a a couple of months now. It was easy to set up and produces ice quickly. I like the 2 sizes for ice. Easy to clean and has been trouble free. Have recommended to friends.

Functional, but not perfect.
Unit works as described, but take note of several items. The Bad: 1) The external casing is plastic, whereas the summary description might lead one to think it is metal. 2) The unit is poorly insulated, if at all so ice melts rather quickly. 3) The noise from the unit is rather disturbing; louder than a modern refrigerator. 4) The ice is frozen within a water reservoir, which causes the ice to be somewhat soft and wet. 5) The ice reservoir is not very large. It will fill about 2.5 glasses with ice. It would not work for a party. 6) The instruction manual is written by someone who does not speak English, so it is a bit hard to decipher in places. 7) As water is recycled indefinitely, fairly frequent cleaning would be recommended to prevent pathogen cultures from growing. The Good: 1) It produces ice fairly quickly. 2) It is very convenient. 3) The controls are intuitive. 4) One can feed an external water source to the unit. 5) It works for those occasions where is no other convenient source of ice.

Best Invention Ever.
I am a person who loves ice, weather it's in my sweet tea, water or Dr. Pepper. Unfortunately my city water tastes terrible and my only option is something that can accept bottled water. But, I was dead set on I wanted an ice maker that can dispense as well. This ice maker hits all the marks! Not only does it dispense ice, it also dispenses water! This one can be hooked up to house water, however I can not use that feature because of city water issues. I just add bottled water to it when it needs it. I have had issues which was easily resolved by contacting the company. Mariella with Whynter was an amazing help, answered any questions I had and remedied the situation to my liking. Shout out to her for going above and beyond. Very happy with this purchase.

Poor design
Unit is horrible. Water Dani says it’s empty and unit shuts off when tank is half full. The unit makes enough ice to fill a pint glass before it if full and shuts off. If ice is not placed in the freezer it just melts does not keep ice frozen

3 months in and the refill valve stuck and flooded our apartment floor. So far they only support option offered is to ship the unit to the US and back at my expense to have it fixed. Complete garbage and absolutely no support. Avoid this product at all costs!

The machine itself worked good for the first year. But after 1 year plus a week after we bought the machine started leaking water fast. We did have it hard plumbed so it was a big mess. Do not plumb it directly. Unfortunately no warranty although we only used it for 10 months. lucky for me I happened to be near it when it happened

like it but wish the water was colder and the ice maker is small

I bought this 1 year and 8 days ago- technically it has been less than a year that it has been used since it took so long to get here. It hasn't been working correctly for about 3 months, so we had a appliance repair man come in to take it apart. They said all the gears are broken in the bottom. They said that it looks so bad, that there's no way that this was intact when it got here, it was just a waiting to break. For the price we paid- I DO NOT RECOMMEND this product.

TASTED AWFUL and there is no way to return this item. Called Whynter direct and they refused to help. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR ANY WHYNTER PRODUCT IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY AND TIME.
