I approve
Typically there's not much to say about a spork, but in the case of this 4 piece set by MSR, I'll make an exception. I just got done testing one of these in a MH meal (sweet & sour pork with rice, to be specific), and here's what I've found: Quality. Considering the material these are made of, I was concerned that these sporks might weaken if the food it was in was steaming hot. As it turns out, that wasn't the case. From stirring to serving, I couldn't feel the overall structure of the spork becoming weakened by the heat. Definitely a plus as nobody wants to eat with a flimsy utensil. Overall, it felt very sturdy in hand: No signs of excessive bending. No signs of the hinge breaking/failing either. Ultimately feels very well designed for what it is. On the flip side, every product has its limitations, so here is what I've found to be a potential drawback. Since it's not made of metal of any sort, it will become more flexible under high heat (steaming hot water from the faucet for example). Upon rinsing the spork with very hot water, it developed (temporarily of course) extra flexibility. While washing this utensil, that's not really a problem, but it does give me an idea as to how it may perform if you're stirring something thick like chili while it's cooking. For that type of task, I wouldn't recommend this spork for the job. For eating though, it's perfectly fine. Another aspect I'd like to make note of is the overall length. At 8 inches long, it's the perfect size for digging into dehydrated meal pouches without getting your fist in the bag, or having to cut the pouch down to size to gain easier access to the food bits in the bottom/corners. Lastly, I'd like to make note of the weight. Now, I'm not really familiar with the aluminum or titanium sporks' typical weight, so I can't make a direct comparison. I can say this much though: Each of these sporks weigh in at a mere 9 grams (0.3 oz). Works for me, and light enough that I can carry spares in my pack without adding hardly any weight at all.

Sporks take a bit of practice if one uses them ...
Sporks take a bit of practice if one uses them as spoons. These are durable, easy-to-clean utensils, lightweight and quite convenient to lend to others in groups as colleagues and companions often forget to put utensils in their hiking packs.

Great Spoon and Fork Combo!
On April 24, 2015, I recived the MSR spoons and forks that I ordered. I recently used them for a backpacking trip to Mt. San Jacinto. They are made of a high quality light weight plastic. They performed beautifuly on my trip and despite their light weight construction you can eat comfortably. In my experience all MSR Products are top quality. I would highly recommend this product.

Great utensils for backpacking
I love these! I can store them in my cooking set because of how they fold down. They are light weight. And they are sturdy enough to get the job done. Easy review to give. If you are deciding, then stop. Hit the buy button. For reference, I am an avid section hiker on the Appalachian Trail. I do not travel as light as others, but I have been working to reduce weight. That is the primary reason I purchased these.

$13? Oh. . . okay. . . . Dozens of uses later, I'd buy it again.
I'll admit, I felt silly paying $13 for camp utensils, but I am happy with the product. These were purchased specifically for my backpacking camping trips where regular sized (non-folding) utensils would not fit inside my cooking kit. These utensils fit neatly inside my camp pot, along with my gas can, portable stove, cleaning sponge and lighter. They are plastic and have a locking mechanism to hold them open while they are being used. There's a pinch point to release and fold back down to its storage position. Being plastic, I would not let them sit for long in a pan over a fire, but I have had no melting issues when using them to stir food in a pan or when mixing bubbling hot water into freeze dried food. I have yet to use them on 'harder' food like a thick steak, but I don't think there would be too much of an issue if you're not rough on them. They're still made of plastic, so they will flex while you use them, but you'd have to be pretty hard or careless on them to break them. Note: I have not used them in really cold winter conditions, so I can't speak on whether or not brittleness ever comes into play. Approximate Dimensions: Fork Extended Length: 203 mm (8") Fork Folded Length: 111 mm (4 & 3/8") Fork Width: 25.5 mm (1") at widest point Spoon Extended Length: 204 mm (8 & 1/16") Spoon Folded Length: 111.5 mm (4 & 3/8") Spoon Width: 38 mm (1 & 1/2") at widest point Weight: No idea - don't have a scale sensitive enough to measure

They are not easy to get unlocked from the closed position
I have one of the slides into itself style sporks from another manufacturer and I got tired of it sliding closed during use, so I got on the hunt for something else. I can vouch that these things stay locked in the open position once you get them open. And there is the minor rub. They are not easy to get unlocked from the closed position. Kid tested and it was an no go. You have to sort of push apart the handle part otherwise it is even difficult for an adult to do. But overall the quality of the sporks is quite good and I'll take staying locked in the open position over the alternative.

My new go to utensils.
I was hesitant to purchase these but the price was ok for me to gamble on them. I was pleasantly surprised by them. My got to set was the telescoping Jetboil utensils but these are becoming my favorites. I wish that MSR would make a cooking set, serving spoon and spatula, in this size. They extend easily and they actually lock in place. I’ve never had an issue with them folding while using like so many other designs. While folded, they are compact enough and when extended, they long enough. Just long enough to reach into a dehydrated meal pouch. What I really like best, is that they are easy to clean. No grooves or channels to clean and you don’t have to separate the pIeces to scrub them. So far, cooking with them, they’ve held up well.

If the price is right, get it.
Bought this set to replace an older one for over night camping. They are very light and made decently. The opening and closing of the utensils can be a bit of a pain (especially for younger campers). They were sturdy enough to eat with even though at times I felt like I would snap them if too much pressure was exerted. I will continue to use them but will try out other brands for future purchases.
