They need the humidity for shed time and hydration. Get a humidity meter to track the % and keep it between 50- 60% humid. **Q: If there is a loss of power will settings be retained and will it start cycling immediately when power returns?** A: It does retain its settings I unplugged my unit trying to get it to forget the settings to no avail so I would say a power outage is equal to unplugging the unit for 24 hours. **Q: My blue tongue sink needs the humidity to at least 40% so how long should I put it on for?** A: That would depend on the relative humidity of the room it is in, the temperature, the size of the enclosure, and the amount of ventilation of the enclosure.
