So these sensors are only motion based? Someone can literally smash out a window and climb through unless there is a glass break sensor within 20ft?

Rather than buy glass break sensors for all of my windows, I have window sensors on all the windows and a motion detection sensor in each room. I have rooms with four and five windows. It saves money and does the same job.

if I put it in my car a connect it then drive off and return within range, will it automatically reconnect to the home base?

You can disconnect and reconnect it by using the keypad.

are these compatible with nest security systems

This is a simple magnetic switch that communicates with the Simplisafe base station. Not 100% sure but I suspect it is proprietary to the Simplisafe system. You might want to contact Nest with this question.
