Merrell Men's Intercept Hiking Shoe

This is my third pair of Merrels, same shoes, same size, same colour. They are always just right. After the initial try on of my regular size(10), I settled for 10.5. They are great shoes, real quality materials and manufacturing, breathable and offer some waterproof protection. The shoes are comfortable, lightweight and great for offroad dog walks and / or the pub! As usual, the best prices are to be found on Amazon. I normally keep the items in my wish list, and Alexa notifies me when there is a price drop.

My fourth pair of Merrell shoes - they have up to now been extremely comfortable and hard wearing. This pair do not have the same comfort footbed as the others and the sole is stiffer and not quite as compliant. Time will tell if they bed in, but my other pairs were comfortable straight out of the box. One point that appears to get worse with each Merrell iteration is the onerous lacing pattern, which in this shoe ends with passing through flimsy material loops. does not inspire any confidence in pulling any sort of tension on the laces, which are overly long as well.

I'm in my late 60s working mostly abroad. My first pair of Merrells were a Continuum model bought in August last year. It is a low rise hiking/walking shoe. I got it in UK 10.5 at an airport outlet where I could try them on. This confirmed the advice of other Merrell purchasers re UK sizing: buy one size larger, so I went 9.5 + 1.0 = 10.5. That shoe fits well, but is a tad heavy. So I bought the Interceptor in Moth Brown, again 10.5. The length is spot-on, but it feels a bit tighter/more compact across the widest part of the foot. I am hoping the Intercept shoes will stretch a bit more as they are ideal for everyday work, out-and-about and travel. I will be writing reviews on two more Merrell shoes, Kicks, a chukka style shoe/boot. The dark brown pair are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn since a pair of New Balance shoes in 2005. Sop comfortable, I have just bought the second pair in the same style, in 'Falcon', which is a neutral grey/green colour. I now have enough everyday Merrells to last me a long time, maybe even longer than me.
