No, it does not. It works with the base game, cities and knights and seafarers expansions. **Q: Where do the outside boarders (water pieces) fit** A: Inside the box. **Q: Does this fit the old or the new catan boxes?** A: The unit fits inside the box from Cities and Knights. It's not perfect but it works. **Q: Can you provide the dimensions of the Catan pieces box?** A: There are several small boxes within the set. They contain different sizes for storing different parts of the game. Four boxes for each of the main four color pieces, one open ended box with slanted slats for cards, and a bigger slotted box for the “banker” to keep the cards for all the items to collect for instance. It’s really a great, quality set. Another strange thing is that you can’t pull the player pieces out without removing all the components of the organizer from the box. Seems counter intuitive if this is supposed to be a time saver.
