Tight connection, I have used outside above ground with no problems. **Q: Anyone use these successfully with 10 gauge stranded (10/2) landscape wire?** A: 10 gauge is considered overkill for 12v landscape lighting. 12 gauge has always been about as big as anyone uses especially since the new LED lights draw only a small percentage of the current that the old halogen lights did. I went with 12 gauge wire on my system. To answer your question I think 10 gauge would work with these but would be a little more difficult to work with because of the size.
