Currently have a 500gb hard drive plugged into my tv to record from usb will this do the same job please

Does this come with a cable, and what cable if it does.

Mine came with a 'c' type USB to standard USB cable. It also had a convertor to make it 'c' type to 'c' type. But if you want to plug it into a standard android phone you will need a standard USB to phone connector adaptor cable. That's what I bought, anyway.

I am getting horribly slow transfer speeds on my imac m1. 12mb-15mb/s. this is crippling. any ideas how to fix this?

Are you sure you're using a compatible cable? Some cables - even USB-C to USB-C - don't allow for full speed. I found that the included cable, with adapter, worked fine for me and got 450MB/s write, 500MB/s read.
