On her own
She's nine and she reads, but mostly comics. I'm not fixing anything. I just want her to see that there's more. So I leave things around. Books she might pick up. Books that are for her, specifically, right now. This one says so on the cover. For her age. That detail is doing more work than it looks like. I bought this book because of the title, mostly. You Are an Amazing Girl. My daughter, at this age, would agree completely. The title fits her. She'd probably say she already knew. I want that to last. The world will have opinions soon enough. The font is big. The chapters are short. There are illustrations too, big simple ones. Nothing like what she reads. But it's good they're there. She read one chapter and it didn't feel hard. That's important when reading still feels hard. She prefers characters she can follow. One girl, many chapters, the same story continuing. This book doesn't work that way. Ten stories, ten different girls. I wasn't sure she'd stay with it. We took it on vacation. Along with a few others, stacked in a bag she helped pack. I thought she'd go for the comics first. She went for the comics first. Of course she did. And then this one too. Story by story. On her own. I can't prove this book did anything. But I'm hoping it's the start of something. Her reaching. Me leaving things within reach.

This was sent in a "Used" condition. May have been returned prior to us getting it. The content of the book was good, our granddaughter has enjoyed reading it.

Inspiring stories for girls
I gave this book as a present to a 12 year old girl. She loves the stories about amazing and courageous girls. It's quite easy to read, too, so I would recommend it also for girls learning English at school.
