Really Is The Next Level Up In Quality
I had a beginner level turntable for 9 years prior to taking the plunge with the Debut Pro.My beginner turntable was also a Pro-Ject model an Elemental which has served me well and has sounded incredibly good. However I have been keen to see how good vinyl can get when venturing up the ladder. This turntable is a good package and is probably in the sweet spot price wise, where it is a worthwhile improvement over basic entry level - before getting into the realms of placebo and audiophile jewellery at serious cost in my opinion. The main points to note with this turntable are:1. It is well constructed from quality materials. The fit and finish are first class. The nickel plated machined parts are beautiful as is the carbon tonearm. The hand painted plinth is simple and elegant with enough weight to it to be solid and stable without being excessive.2. It’s good looking, which is important because a quality record player really should be part of your furniture just as your speakers are.3. It comes well packaged and is easy to set up with a little patience. All that is required is fitting the belt and platter, setting the tracking force and anti skate weight. Then perhaps a levelling with the adjustable feet. Once set up once you’re good to go.4. It is a tactile device which encourages you to want to use it.5. Sound quality is excellent. This really is a lovely record deck, it looks beautiful and is nice to operate. The tone arm lowers with a nice soft precision every time you use it, speed selection is easy with the toggle switch and the sound is an improvement over my older basic turntable. There is more life to the midrange in particular when compared with my entry level unit, with vocals and guitars sounding much more prominent and clear. There is very little in the way of background noise with this turntable. There are no mechanical artefacts such as motor noise or rumble here, just a nice silent background so long as your records are clean you will only hear music and not unwanted intrusions.Another main point of improvement over my old entry level machine is there is a lack of sibilance and inner groove distortion now. Yes some pressings can still have a touch of this, but overall it’s much improved with this turntable.I decided to buy the Puck Pro which matches this deck since the cast aluminium platter is designed to be used without a slip mat as long as you use the puck. This is personal preference and not essential as a felt mat is provided. However this cast damped platter does mean that changing to an acrylic platter in the future is not needed on the Pro and would arguably be considered downgrading. The tonearm is of the same construction of the Pro-Ject models on the slightly next level up price wise the X1 & X2. So it is fully adjustable and will allow the user to choose and fit any cartridge in the future. The sub platter can be swapped out to an aluminium one in future if desired so for me considering all of these points I think this really is the sweet spot in the Pro-Ject line up. It offers good out of the box performance, is fully adjustable and can be upgraded with cartridges and sub platter if you choose to go down that route (I probably will leave it as it is- it’s definitely good enough), and it comes with it’s own unique high mass damped platter. To summarise I think this is the sensible upgrade choice, it’s not cheap - but it’s also still below £1000 and that’s where diminishing returns are going to really kick in. The Pro is more than good enough to satisfy any audiophile.I’m delighted with mine and I recommend it.

The sound of records at their best.
I am a bit lost for words, after years of owning Rega turntables . I have had four Regas , the origional plannar 3, then a p1 , p2 and finally my p3 . i have started to find the motors a bit unreliable , my p3 (5 years old) has now had it's second motor fitted in this time , also they have all suffered with a slight hum ,its only in between tracks , but its their and it's most annoying . Anyway long story short , i heard one of these being demo'ed and oh my god what a sound was coming from it , very quiet noise floor , it just tracks and sounds superb , so i bought one , As good as Regas are , sorry to say , but this is much better than my Rega P3 , and i'm now in love with my Pro-ject , never thought i'd say that LOL

Brilliant once you add a phono pre amp
Excellent deck but it didn't like the phono stage on my Audiolab 8300A. Added a Cambridge Audio phono pre amp and the sound was transformed!

A nice surprise!
This turntable is really good. Sound is excellent with the pre-installed cartridge. Initially I was thinking to change it with an Ortofon 2M, but I decided to give a chance to the other first... Nice surprise! Sound is amazing. Pristine trebles, deep bass, excellent mid-range. Stereo separation is awesome too.The turntable itself is nice, though the quality of the hinges for the lid is far from being average. It took me a big effort to get it assembled properly as one of the regulation screws was totally jammed. No good quality check, that is why I took one star from the overall rating.Nevertheless, really happy with my new turntable...

Arm Misaligned
Arm misaligned at cartridge end by circa 40 mms.Misaligned arm meant that first 2 tracks of any standard LP would not be playable. No means for user to realigned as arm fixed firmly in the wrong position.Sadly; returned as unusable.

Disappointed
Was rather disappointed the lid does not fit the hinges as the hinges have been fitted in the wrong place. Sound quality is fantastic but the build quality let's it down. Wouldn't recommend buy a Rega
